The Biggest Little Farm Reviews
Deep pockets and big dreams aside, this is an aspirational film fuelled with a positive energy that is infectious.

By the end of the film, the story of the Chesters and their farm has brought forth a bevy of smiles and tears, and a strong desire to book a trip to visit their small slice of heaven.

There's nothing like a couple dozen baby piggies.

In the moment, I found myself overwhelmed by how cute, and how twee it can be. It's charming to a fault, almost obnoxiously so. But, it gives you a wealth of ideas to ruminate on, leaving you with a substantial amount of hope for the future.

A tender reflection... about the indomitability of nature, self-improvement, perseverance and, at the end of the day, the search for happiness. [Full review in Spanish]

But the real issue is here the myopic pacing, which turns a once-whole film into a mat of vignettes.

The film succeeds beautifully. The science is fascinating, the results thrilling, the message sober and empowering.

What makes The Biggest Little Farm unusual is it has one hand, or paw, in essay filmmaking, another (unfortunately) in self-promotion and still another in a category akin to Disneynature films. The mix isn't entirely successful, but its joy is infectious.

This is a movie about a family with a dream of farming, who makes that dream come true, sort of, with a lot of outside help. There is some great cinematography showing nature at work on the farm. The story of the farm is well, and fairly told.

Despite its narrative simplicity, the richness of its subject gives this film real charm and makes it compelling viewing.

The team bang heads before satisfying eureka moments are struck, and the feeling of a symphony coming to life becomes irresistible, despite the at-times overly glossy texture of it all.

What a lovely, soul-feeding film this is.

Although punctuated with some engaging and clever two-dimensional animation, the joy of Biggest Little Farm comes from its warts-and-all chronicle.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Dec 2, 2019
The gentle rhythm of this timely, environmentally conscious documentary will temporarily draw you away from the world of tiny screens into a partially ambiguous yet fulfilling tale of endurance.

A few pertinent questions are answered; natural solutions to certain problems (ducks will eat the pestilent snails!) are a joy to behold.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Dec 1, 2019
Though it doesn't shy away from the realities of animal husbandry (and the environmental consequences of global warming), it's tone and style is a little treacly and manipulative.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 1, 2019
The film is so companionable in John's unrelenting grin-and-bear-it voice-over, and so lovable with Molly's all-American positivity that, heck, you even want to know how they got Todd in the first place.

The word "diversity" is mentioned a little too often in the narration, but this is completely irresistible, nonetheless.

Simple, sweet and heart-warming, imbuing a sense of wonder at the diversity of nature - one for kids and grownups

Like a cross between 'Microcosmos' and an origin story for Old MacDonald, this wonderful doc is possibly the most joyous 90 minutes you'll spend in a cinema this year.
