The Brutalist Reviews
Way too long and boring. The target of this movie is for over 50. Don't watch it if you are not socialist. As always A24 is a waste of time.
The Brutalist is a meditative, visually captivating film that draws you into its world with a quiet, immersive intensity. Its deliberate storytelling and hypnotic cinematography create a deeply emotional experience, while raw, controlled performances anchor its meditative pace. The minimalist setting and evocative score perfectly complement the film’s themes of isolation and introspection. Despite its long runtime, the film never loses its grip, leaving a lingering, thoughtful impact.
A waste of three hours in a movie theatre. What were they thinking? So awful!
If there is a movie that shows what immigrants go thru to survive in a country not of their own is this movie. Adrian Brody brings to life a conflicting character that goes to the stages of immigrant life in terms of being used, manipulated and violated all just to survive another day in a foreign country. Although a long film it gives the viewers a pause in it to refresh first time I haven't seen that used until now and won't be surprise future films do something like this. Overall, great job on the entire cast and pioneer Brady Corbet on the intermission pause.
Powerful Movie & story
With the historical reality of this fictional story, and the 3 hr 20 minute run time, one would imagine rich character development, memorable dialogue, and a satisfying story. This movie offered none of those, and I will never get that time back. Genuinely empty movie.
The Brutalist is one of the most remarkable films of 2024. The Brutalist is the lost treasure of film analysts, the ideal love of patient viewers, the utopia of the Brutalist architect, and the conceptual framework for those of us who struggle to appreciate the value of images and their meaning. The exploration of the dark side of the American dream is not a new phenomenon. In these films, which are often complex and confusing, especially in their narrative, the connection with the characters fades somewhat, and instead, we find ourselves immersed in a cinematic expression replete with captivating and almost legendary images. I won't lie, I found it difficult to connect with the film's plot; However, the mesmerizing quality of its cinematography managed to move, intimidate, and shock me in a profound way, something I hadn't experienced in a long time when watching a film. "It attempts to say many things, but I'm left with a reflection on the unimaginable after-effects suffered by the victims of totalitarianism."
Difficult to watch wirh sone lengths, but some impressive pictures
I was looking forward to this movie. Adrian Brody was excellent in the Pianist. Unfortunately, this movie was dull and totally unworthy of the Oscar hype it received. None of the characters were likeable, the story was slow beyond belief, and quite honestly, many of the scenes were over or badly directed. I have been watching great movies for over 50 years and this one was a waste of time. I would not recommend it.
GRIM!! This 3 + hr movie is unrelentingly grim to the very end. It is full of gratuitous sexual violence. There is no real emotional connection between any of the characters; there is no unifying message or theme. I went to bed with nightmares. I did not find it particularly illuminating about the Holocaust or its victims. Much of the plot is left vague and the viewer gets to ‘decide’ what happened, even the backstory is not revealed fully until the last few minutes of the film. I recommend NOT watching it. Such a shame, because I love Adrian Brody and I had been looking forward to it.
Beautifully shot, masterfully crafted, it comes across like a Paul Thomas Anderson movie at first (shot on 70mm, amazing cinematography, thoughtful, etc), but it ultimately suffers from bad writing. The first half seemed on the road to a masterpiece, but the 2nd half is laughably bad, falling back on tired, melodramatic storylines (like the typical heroin trope you see in almost every biopic), and complete lack of nuance. Brady Corbet just can't hold back his impulses toward overindulgence, ruining his own movie by moving from beautiful subtlety around the post-WW2 Jewish experience in America into resolutions that are way too on the nose and often bewildering. Not getting the point of the power dynamics between Adrien Brody and Guy Pierce? There's plenty to mine from, but let's add THAT scene just to hammer in the point! The sex scenes are just...bad, clearly written by a man. And somehow, even in 3+ hour movie, much goes unresolved, like his relationship with his token "best friend" who seems to no have story of his own, other than being a sidekick. Guy Pearce's fate is just...nonsensical. It's a pretty frustrating movie, in the sense that it begins so well and ends so badly. Corbet should stick to the filmcraft, and use a better writer next time.
A massive yet incredibly powerful work. I thought I would get bored, but the 3 hours and 40 minutes flew by without feeling long at all. The story is intense, brought to life by vibrant, deeply human characters, all portrayed brilliantly. I truly believe that Adrien Brody’s outstanding performance could earn him the Oscar for Best Actor. The cinematography is stunning, and the brutalist directing style pulled me into the story in a way I didn’t expect. Honestly, creating a film of this level with just a $9 million budget is a challenge few could accomplish today. An incredible achievement, with 10 well-deserved Oscar nominations.
Booooring, never made the end
I wasted 3:30 hours if my time! 3:30 and were not able to tell a detailed story!?!? A mess of movie.
Really had my hopes up for this one but unfortunately I did not love this film. Brody is a talented man but the film lacked in script and storyline. I watched this movie hoping something meaningful was going to occur. Instead the film relied on nudity and drug usage. Portraying the main character as a “successful heroin addict” was unrealistic. Admittedly there were some tokens of good storytelling but instead of expanding on it ~ the movie fell short. I wasn’t engaged watching this film. Grateful I viewed it at home and not in the theater. Still waiting for a really great film…it’s been a while Hollywood
This is a Wow movie, just, amazing
Good movie, but nothing special. Adrien is suburb as always, but the movie itself is just not there.
It was a very truthful movie and had much understanding to pain and resolve. What I learned is that through pain and difficulty you can always choose to get up.
...EXCELLENT...In Every Category...Definitely, Should Have Won An Oscar For Best Picture, Best Director Along With Brody's Oscar For Best Actor...
