The Bubble Reviews
Yet another dull name on a list of premature pandemic fuelled filmmaking.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Jul 15, 2024
Running at over 2 hours long, The Bubble feels like it’s spinning its wheels a lot of the time to quickly diminishing returns.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Jul 12, 2024
The Bubble bursts without much payoff.
| Original Score: D- | Jul 19, 2023
Rather than a specific comedic experience with a clear vision, [The Bubble] is a patchwork of skits over two hours that's clumsily jammed together.
| Original Score: 5/10 | Jan 4, 2023
This COVID-era clunker attempts to riff on everything from the pandemic to Hollywood celebrity status. But it ends up being a scattershot mess that’s so full of itself that it’s completely unaware of how unfunny it is.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Aug 16, 2022
It pushes the adage of “comedy is misery” to its worst extreme, and it keeps thinking by getting grimmer and even more extreme it’ll be funnier, but it’s just soul-destroying.
| Original Score: 1.5/10 | Jul 26, 2022
It certainly strains for its pandemic-era laughs, mostly missing the mark by always feeling out of date.

…Too long and not always inspired. [Full review in Spanish]
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | May 16, 2022
The dumbest, most repulsive movie I’ve seen in a while. Pointless and unfunny, it wastes the talent of most of the cast.
| Original Score: 0.5/5 | May 6, 2022
There is so much The Bubble could have done with the concept of movies being filmed during the pandemic while satirising the privileged. But there is no bite to the humour and no sharpness to the observations.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Apr 27, 2022
There's an undercurrent of desperation in the frenzied dialogue readings and hamming for the camera, as if the skilled people assembled here somehow implicitly felt the need to compensate for the writing by forcing things.
| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Apr 24, 2022
It has nothing new or insightful to add to the discourse, and instead seems comfortable recycling jokes that weren’t funny when we first encountered them on Twitter two years ago.
| Original Score: 0.5/4 | Apr 20, 2022
It’s an anger-inducing catastrophe, that even in the eye rolling world of "well intentioned" celebrity projects still manages to be an embarrassment.
| Original Score: 1/5 | Apr 19, 2022
This is a disaster and the worst thing Judd Apatow's ever done.
| Apr 19, 2022
Pause The Bubble at your own peril; the motivation it will take to restart and reach the end may be more than anyone has left right now.
| Original Score: C- | Apr 18, 2022
While fitfully diverting thanks to its ensemble of accomplished comic actors, The Bubble is bloated, too long and often achingly unfunny, and succumbs to many of the self-congratulatory tendencies it looks to satirise.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 17, 2022
Maybe I’ll regret writing this after a rewatch – or when we’re back in lockdown after the Pi Epsilon 2.0 variant – but there is semi-purpose and not insignificant pleasure to be had in Apatow’s experiment.
| Apr 13, 2022
Apatow's movie sinks under the weight of its own farcical execution.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Apr 12, 2022
Is The Bubble anywhere near Airplane levels of hilarious? Gods no. But for what most folks find to stream on the weekend, it ain't half bad by comparison.
