The Creator Reviews
I haven't seen visuals this photorealistic in a film that cost less than $100 million since District 9. The Creator is a thoroughly engaging sci-fi romp centered on a war against artificial intelligence. In addition to its incredible CGI, I commend the film for briefly exploring the intriguing notion of an afterlife that bridges the gap between humans and machines.
They could have done so much more with this story. It's worth watching for the visuals but you're gonna come away thinking about 10 ways they could have made this movie better.
Love the lead actor, the production was awesome, but the storyline was meh
I Won't say much but I am grown man, and I cried like a baby , just watch it
This movie was incredible! The visuals were amazing, and the story was compelling and intense. I highly recommend it for sci-fi fans!
Cool visuals, worst acting ever.
I really, really liked this one. Let’s go Sturgil!
I feel like the movie tried to condense a whole series of two or three seasons into an epic and beautifully orchestrated set of 2 hours. I was engaged through most of the movie but for some reason I didn't like so much how they portrayed the weapon itself. I feel that there should be some sort of uncertainty on the way it operates.
The child should have total control over the big ship that would have saved both his parents but being so young it just felt AI is not ready 100 years later. It is possible that her parents are alive as clones since part of the ship has landed undamaged when the child smiles in the ending scene. In another sequel, I would imagine that robots would show lights glowing around their bodies like Christmas lights
Such a good movie made me and my boyfriend cry
Jaw-dropping special effects and an original science-fiction plot about the powers of Artificial Intelligence remind us what it means to be human. Joshua (John David Washington) and especially Alphie (Madeleine Yuna Voyles) quickly become characters that we care about. We also quickly develop a heart for the people and robots of ‘New Asia’ as they fight a war against Americans. Gareth Edwards establishes real stakes with massive explosions and high death tolls. We have no trouble understanding this is a real war. The value for human life - emphasized by the lack thereof - is dwarfed by the hatred of A.I. It’s all quite… scary, how real this is or can be in our world. The combination of original visual effects and real-world locations in Southeast Asia are visuals that are rare in American film. It’s exciting to see a new part of the world in a movie. The Creator heavily relies on VFX, but you don’t realize it. Everything created is so seamlessly integrated into the rest of the environment. My favorite element of this film is the typography. Title card and even the credits, but the film is also divided into four sections: The Creator, The Child, The Friend, and The Mother. At the beginning of each section, there is a new title card. The typeface is an excellent choice, strong presence in all caps, but sophisticated with classic serifs. Each instance is matched with this Southeast Asian language. I’m not sure which one exactly, or if it was created for the film, but it places you in that part of the world with those visual cues. It’s a perfect design choice for the film. The use of typography in film is so underrated! The film’s visual effects and sound design go hand-in-hand. Every new piece of tech has to make a sound! Everything is textured and touchable. Edwards brings realism to the alternate future of The Creator, and each scene is believable. There are a few plot holes, but nothing too massive to disrupt the flow of the film. What keeps you engaged is Joshua’s character arc from selfish depression to sacrificial love. The themes of family, innocence, goodness, love, and even heaven are all presented through this story about a war between humans and robots. Sometimes, the robots are “more human than human”... a reminder that we cannot forget what makes us human.
Sakto lang. Di ganun kaganda, di ganun kapanget. Generic na sci-fi story na may malupit na visual effects.
Film was so beautiful, but it doesn't get a 5 star because it feels like a Part 1 to an amazing sequel.
Tedious, uninspiring, predictable, CGI laden. Possibly (and if so) ironically quite as bad as current AI. Turkey!
Appreciate the attempt at something meaningful but it left something that made me want more.
Very good scenes and music
I thought perhaps the visuals could save this movie, but the story really had a lot of issues, and parts of it just didn't even make sense. While a lot of the visuals were pleasing to the eye, even a lot of the visual elements didn't make a whole lot of sense. The big lasers that shine down from the NOMAD installation are the biggest culprit. Not only do they make no sense from a technical standpoint unless they're supposed to function as some kind of terror weapon themselves, but they make little sense from a tactical standpoint, as they seem to shine in areas where and when a covert operation is going on. I mean, there's one scene where the American soldiers are hiking to destroy a covert facility and sporting flashlights while walking on top of a ridgeline. You don't need to be a special forces operator to know how tactically boneheaded that is. The movie's a lot of style and not a lot of substance, and the emotional elements of the story really fall pretty flat. Some of the world design and special effects made it bearable enough to get through but just barely.
A messy compilation of false intentions of peace from the A.I, uneven and rushed pacing barely give you enough time to grow attached to anyone before they are often killed off, followed by "emotional" death scenes that don't land as we just don't care enough. A.I claim to be fighting for peace yet their violent and bold actions say otherwise, the writing and plot armour just doesn't match up to the motives of each side. The questionable actions of the so called peaceful A.I took me out of the immersion of their cause and made it very clear as to how far they are willing to go to achieve this "peace" very sloppy writing. Visuals and impressive VFX gave me reason enough to finish
5 stars to Gareth Edwards who was both the writer and director. Highly entertaining sci fi movie which I would highly recommend. Knew nothing of this movie prior to viewing as it popped onto our screen after watching a selected movie and was pleasantly surprised. Action packed with a thought provoking script and both great visuals and special effects. On my list of must see movies.
