The Cursed Reviews
This movie has a good atmosphere - dreary olden times. I think a lot of people hated the night setting because it's hard to see, but that's part of the point. The plot dragged at parts and got somewhat confusing at some areas, but it was a decent movie. The creatures were certainly interesting, and it leaves you wondering about what exactly happened.
It was compelling, but sometimes the story just fell flat. It was fun to watch though, and I recommend it for horror fans.
A very slow burn movie, with some unpleasant scenes and interesting at its best. I belive this could be so disgusting and bizarre, but they just didn't.
Weird and hard to follow. I don't get why people like the "atmosphere" it's just really hard to see anything :/
Would like to leave a review of the whole film but fell asleep after the first 6 hours. Or did it just feel like it? All credit to the guys that made the trailer though. Maybe the trailer should have been the film and they should have thrown the padding away?
The only silver bullet should go to writer and director
We are all cursed in a way or make our own A large cast of unknowns in a gothic horror story The movie opens in 1917 at the battle of Somme, one soldier is treated for gunshot wounds with a silver bullet pulled out of him Flashback to 35 years ago; the story centers on a rich family in an estate Their father, a baron and other businessmen need the land inhabited by gypsies so they are forced to drive them out One of the Gypsies lays a curse on them affecting their children; each has a nightmare about a scarecrow and picking up silver teeth One of the children is bitten by another under a trance and things start to change as the gypsies' revenge takes hold Rumors have surfaced of a monster in a small village So a pathologist arrives to investigate; is it all true or something concocted by legend folklore? The thing is he did lose his wife and daughter to similar circumstances I like the direction by Sean Ellis, the atmosphere is very dark and nightmare quality, the pacing is pretty brisk for an hour and 52 min, the blood and the practical effects are very nice Some of the CG is a bit dodgy and the title is generic but I appreciate the film wastes no time getting to the good material It also helps they don't show the creature too much A well crafted period horror piece that breaks away from the traditional mythology we're used to The aura of death surrounding these people adds to the mood being a more adult horror film than most Comments to the cinematography, the camerawork as well as the editing Ellis makes this pretty affective and somewhat emotional towards the end It does make you root for the rest of these family members to make it out alive next to the pathologist during this outbreak of cholera in this time period Yes there are scarier iterations out there but this manages to be above average than most
Downton Abbey, with werewolves. ;)
Good enough. Certainly original, but has a tendency to drag a bit. Nicely don't though. Well worth your time.
Loved it. Not the Generic Werewolf movies of late.
I made an account just to tell people this movie sucks.
Mostly slow over failed suspense before it actually thickens with worthy patience, this talented gothic horror nicely serves in providing depicted origins to one of the genre's key mythology as the only takeaway. (B)
Surprisingly effective. Good acting. Atmospheric. I'm surprised by the low audience score
Hulu's descroption was initially refreshing, as I DGAF who the actors and actresses are when selecting what to watch. Hulu actually gave me an idea of what the movie might be about. Tight lacing a corset? Seriously thought we were past this, what with every historian and youtube corset person pointing out that it isn't accurate. The movie is not too dark to see what's going on, which is a huge plus for this era of horror movie. General use of foreground lit shots, a lot better than senseless poor backlit headache inducing "natural" scenes. Oof, a couple poorly backlit shots, got to deduct a star for that. Real looking fires, definitely a plus. Ooo a fancier breed of chicken, always enjoy seeing that instead of purpose bred factory farm chickens. Oof, people waking up with full makeup. For some reason people are wearing extremely loud shoes, kinda want to smack them with the newspaper for being so obnoxious. Yeah so the lighting just gets worse and worse until you're realling wishing they'd invest in a reflector. That's a solid middle rating from my eyestrain.
This movies cinematography is very good, it does a great job of adding to the eerie atmosphere. The slow build up of tension is very good and the monster scenes are very intense. Only problem is occasionally some thing's don't make much sense but it really doesn't do much to hinder the film.
This was recommended by a respected film critic. It was okay... I did not care for the ending, though. It seemed like the mythology was broken to make that ending. It was well crafted, but there was room for improvement.
The Cursed brings a new and exciting twist on the werewolf story.

The story is nothing special, but it builds tension well and the film will hold your interest.
Better than a lot of other movies with a "Cursed" title.
