The Descent: Part 2 Reviews

If nothing else, the sequel has senseless Crawler action in spades, and there is an attempt at a happier ending for those who found the original film’s conclusion too gloomy.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 27, 2023

Despite its regression into full-fledged schlock mode, this horror sequel didn’t deserve the direct-to-video treatment.

| Original Score: 2/4 | Aug 21, 2023

The Descent: Part 2 becomes just another hopeless sequel engulfed by the darkness.

| Aug 5, 2023

There are scenes where our characters are supposed to be in the pitch black and it looks like they're sunning themselves in Cabo

| Jan 10, 2022

It may not be as meticulously crafted or as gritty as its predecessor... [but] there's enough edge of the seat shocks and grisly set-pieces - not to mention satisfying cross-overs from the original - to keep genre fans happy.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 25, 2019

Appreciate the bonus 90 minutes you get to spend down in the caves with these terrifying monsters.

| Oct 19, 2018

While cave-killings were engaging for an hour and a half the first movie, this time around I grew bored by about the hour mark.

| Oct 19, 2018

The film does offer its fair share of cool set pieces and scary sequences, but ultimately can't hold a candle to the first.

| Original Score: 6/10 | Oct 19, 2018

Unfortunately for The Descent: Part 2, the loud jumps that did come weren't strong enough to shake me in any way, as, for the most part (like so much of the film), they were fairly well sign posted.

| Oct 19, 2018

Overall The Descent: Part 2 is a major step down from the first film in almost every area, from the amount of scares to the effectiveness of the gore and even down to such things as the dialogue.

| Original Score: 2/5 | Oct 19, 2018

Thank the sequel for underscoring, in its devastating mediocrity, just how great and special the original was to start with.

| Original Score: 4/10 | Feb 9, 2011

Doesn't come close to the original, but still manages to entertain.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Nov 11, 2010

By the standards set up by its predecessor, it's a letdown, but by the overall standards of horror sequels, it's a complete success.

Full Review | Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 30, 2010

You can practically see the film trying to "color between the lines" laid down in the first film, but there's just enough freshness to keep Part 2 chugging along.

| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 27, 2010

With its back-and-forth plot pointing, illogical leaps in pragmatic believability, and a finale that flips a big fat middle finger at anyone who invested 90 minutes in this junk, The Descent 2 cannot hold a miner's candle to the original.

| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Apr 23, 2010

No one expected 'Part 2' to rival the original, but it delivers a fair number of scares while replicating the eerie tension from the first film.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 22, 2010

You won't be missing anything spectacular if you don't catch The Descent: Part 2, for horror fans and those who enjoyed the original, however, it's definitely worth a go.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 15, 2010

A claustrophobic, creepy popcorn flick that compensates for predictable scares with deliciously disgusting moments involving a whole spectrum of bodily fluids.

An uninspired retread of a horror classic, this tries hard to justify its existence... and fails.

Full Review | Original Score: 2/5 | Dec 4, 2009

Harris's direction is messy, favouring confusing set-piece scares over the all-important group dynamics.
