The Dig Reviews
Thus isn’t my type of film usually, but I found it to be enchanting and captivating. Carey Mulligan and Ralph Fiennes are excellent, as is the young lad . A window on a dangerous time but also captures the charm of England back then , when everyone had manners and everything was done with TLC.
I just watched The Dig, and I have to say, it’s such a beautiful and moving film. I knew a little bit about the Sutton Hoo discovery, but this film really brings the whole story to life in such a heartfelt way. It’s not just about the archaeology; it’s about the people behind it and everything they went through.
Wonderful portrait of a upper-class women by Carey Mulligan
A wonderful account of the finding of the Sutton Hoo ship burial. Lots of beautifully filmed shots of the brooding and evocative Suffolk landscape set against a background of the beginning of WW2 and a movie that has plenty to say about the wider continuum too.
damn thing doesnt even have good story, it will make you bored and sleepy
The Dig is a heartwarming movie led by the amazing performances of Fiennes and Mulligan as well as beautiful cinematography of England's countryside. However, in my opinion, the plotline surrounding the love story takes away from these strong elements, ultimately bloating the movie unnecessarily.
Atmospheric, nice story, good message. Nice visuals. A good old time.
We enjoyed the movie, good plot,
A Beautiful story, well acted and directed - they don't make many movies like this anymore.
There is not a thing wrong with the movie. The acting, pacing and camera is impeccable.
Takes you back to a slower world...beautifully shot...Great acting as usual from Ralph and the cast...no need for any deep critique just watch sit back sip on a Gin and enjoy
When it focuses on the titular dig the movie can often be quite moving, I just wish that the superfluous elements, which eat up a huge portion of the runtime, were as focused and nuanced.
Outstanding period piece. Superb performances from Mulligan and Fiennes.
"The Dig" is good but not great. In spite of some very good performances and a beautiful filming —especially the gorgeous countryside—, the action is slow and by the second part it falls into a more conventional melodrama.
El guión impecable y las extraordinarias actuaciones.
Well written and well acted.
A slow burn story. Archaeology might be hard to attract audiences, but throughout the story I learned about the importance of "digging" the past and preserving it for the future generation. The looming war and main character's sickness are set as a background of the film, where death can appear at any moment.
A movie about life and death. Not particularly useful or entertaining. An attempt to make you feel better about dying. If that's something you think you'll enjoy then go for it.
