The Duke Reviews
Heartwarming true story, loved it!
Shows the humanity of a working class family in Great Britain in early 1960s. Each member has issue(s) to cope with and each doesn't necessarily conform to what was the accepted norms of the time. But love does weave through the tale and unity returns in the end.
Such a cute story! We loved it! It was well acted, the scenery was authentic. Helen Mirren brought clout to the movie. It was just the type of movie we need right now..Honest, sweet and uplifting. My husband felt the same.
We had to make up the dialog as it went along since it was almost unintelligible. However the movie was incredibly sweet and well worth seeing.
This brick is calling all bricks to assemble and view this wonderful story. :)
Lovely story. Starts off slow but builds to a satisfying conclusion.
Good to see a movie about working class people and old people. Hollywood doesn't make that type of movie. Jim Broadbent was great in the leading role - likeable eccentric and very funny. Helen Mirren did a good supporting role. Great story.
weak lighting, but good story.
This movie, based on a true story, has a heartfelt subplot. I really enjoyed this movie. The characters were perfectly cast. Helen Mirren is magnificient in her role.
Very entertaining, light with somewhat serious social content
Funny, charming, witty story of Britains 1961 Robin Hood
A charming period piece well acted and fantastic acting. The English accents can be a bit tricky to follow so be ready to concentrate.
Feel good movie albeit predictable. Not a bad way to pass a little over an hour and a half. Good acting good pacing and before you know it, its over and youll have a smile on your face.
Great acting , incredible story
Loved this movie. Great story, terrific acting!
Wonderful story, excellent performances, especially from Jim Broadbent!!
From the perspective of an American viewer, The Duke was a typical British movie in that it started very slowly, but built to a wonderful finish.
it was too slow. (Very British I guess.) i fell asleep. My wife thought it was very good. She was thrilled with the movie.
We loved this version of a true story......Helen and Jim did a great job depicting the time and somewhat humorous events.
A very pleasant, entertaining British comedy with most of the common tropes. It's the little guy against authority. It's the cast that makes this such a nice movie. Even though I knew where it was going I had fun on the ride. No special effects. No loud noises. It's old fashioned story telling.
