The Elephant Queen Reviews
The result is a nice story about elephants but not much more, making The Elephant Queen feel a bit like a squandered opportunity.

The Elephant Queen is messy, but it's still a worthwhile nature watch that educates viewers on how important elephants are to the biomes across which they traverse and why.

A cute story about the circle of life.

Not as tonally stable nor as thematically cogent as it could have been, but it does feature some child-appropriate scenes of animals relieving themselves, having sex, and even dying.

Young viewers could certainly handle a few more harsh facts. Yet "The Elephant Queen" sets out, first and foremost, to use a narrative to build compassion. And here, a good story is as effective as a shout.

A gorgeously photographed and detailed portrait of an elephant herd making an arduous journey in search of water.

Anthropomorphism is generally kept to reasonable levels, and the total effect conveys real respect for nature.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Sep 19, 2019
There's a gap between the story Stone and Deeble want to tell about love and family, and the much grimmer story nature itself is telling, in unsentimental terms. In the end, it's hard to reconcile the two.
