The 5th Wave Reviews

Mar 22, 2025

Although I understand the reviews from critics or from normal movie lovers like myself I would definitely say that it's a good watch for a calm evening and one that is safe to rewatch when wanting to unwind. Good, not great, movie but definitely worth to watch at least once. (I've personally revistited this movie countless of times since its release)

Like twilight but with aliens . It starts off well , but keeps getting worse

While I understand the reviews I think it's a fun watch for a casual evening. It's more of a spy kids plot wise yes however but the setting is good and it can get brutal and violent. Acting is good, though directing feels like a teens summer flick. this is might have been a better AA action game 😂

Lebenszeitverschwendung. Die ersten fünf bis zehn Minuten lassen noch auf eine interessante Geschichte hoffen, aber vergeblich. Platte Story, öde Handlungsstränge. Nicht zu empfehlen.

The 5th Wave is a forgettable attempt at a sci-fi dystopian thriller, suffering from a recycled plot and a script that does little to elevate it. The story lacks originality, with predictable twists and rushed pacing that does not allow for proper character development. The first act barely builds any emotional connection before jumping straight into the second act, making the entire setup feel hollow. Starting the movie with a scene from later in the story does not help either, as it fails to create any real suspense or curiosity. The directing feels uninspired, as if following a formula rather than crafting something engaging. Cinematography is decent but nothing remarkable, relying on standard visuals without adding much to the experience. The acting is fine, but the script gives the cast little to work with, often forcing them into awkward or unconvincing dialogue. Moments that should feel dramatic end up feeling forced, making it difficult to stay invested in the characters. The score is forgettable, doing just enough to fill the background without enhancing the tension or emotion. Overall, The 5th Wave misses opportunities to be a compelling sci-fi thriller and ends up as a bland, uninspired adaptation that does not leave much of an impact.

Filme apocalíptico bom até mas se perde na hora que os alien fazem as ondas

É um filme interessante, a continuação seria bem-vinda

Interesting plot, likeable characters, and cringe moments topped off with an abrupt ending.

Cheese. From a galaxy of cheese this movie came, spreading cosmic cheese for all to choke on.

Thinly written, poorly conceptualized, and unfocused, The 5th Wave is exactly what one would expect from a post-Hunger Games YA Dystopia flick.

Don’t understand the reviews. It’s a great flick for what it is

Not only is this generic and forgettable but it also suffers from perplexing and unlikable film making decisions. It's a stereotypical American Hollywood lack of imagination throughout. The lead actress Chloë Grace Moretz can act but does not look like she survived an apocalypse let alone five of them, her hair is just too perfect, plus she looks and acts too old to be a school student. They initially frame it from her perspective but they shift it to anyone's perspective and that is disjointed. There are many plot holes like the first two waves seem pretty pointless compared to the third, only being able to detect t in children makes no sense, how do they have ‘intelligence’ on these aliens, if the aliens take over human bodies then how do they act like that person, feels like they'd act very differently. And many more, I realise they explain some of this in the film but at the time it really takes you out of the experience. The scene where the army came made my eyes roll so many times, so many issues. I think I rolled my eyes more times than any other film I've seen. Couldn't they think of a better name for the aliens? It's quite slow and largely predictable, it could have been a great 15 minute short. The special effects are only okay. The dark sections are too dark. There is no real conclusion. Don't bother.

I did enjoy the lead and her story, the story of Evan just frustrated me it felt so forced and unnatural. In an effort to tell Evans story, to inject a desperate 'plot twist' the director simply didn't have the skill to project evans story with discretion and not resort to marvel film visual theatrics. Evans amplified traits were so different than all his peers to the detriment, it unraveled every preceding narratives of the enemy the director worked so hard to weave. That was the pivotal scene enough to destroy what could have been memorable survival thriller story of solo or duo, if everybody was marvel like Evan why have the children in the film at all?

I read a lot of really REALLY bad reviews and I don’t understand it! I wouldn’t say it’s a blockbuster hit but it wasn’t bad. Many reviewers say it’s a mishmash of other dystopian movies (Divergent and Hunger Games) with a young adult romance and maybe they are right (on the mishmash not the movies) but they act like that’s a bad thing. Most movies now a days are a mishmash of others or just flat out remakes but for this one I actually enjoyed it. In no way was it anything like Divergent OR Hunger Games just because it had kids in a dystopian world, if anything it had a little of Tom Cruises World of War (with out the intense fear) mixed with the Host, and maybe a dash of Red Dawn adding the military effect. The movie all in all moved fast from waive to waive but I don’t feel it was too bad because they were getting to the heart of the story and the transitions were understandable. It’s a fun watch and I’m a tough sell, with all the supposed blockbuster hits that are sooooo over digitized and literal remakes that make me go, Really? Would definitely watch it again but a little disappointed they didn’t make the second book (which is why it is left hanging at the end), so I guess I’ll just have to go read it instead of watch it. Also notice how MOST of the reviewers are saying the same thing? Makes me wonder if they are just copying each other, no sense of individual thought on this movie.

The different kinds of waves were interesting, but the plot not so much.

Starts off promising but then gets really boring and really stupid.
