The Founder Reviews

not a terrible film, but I'm not sure who I'm meant to root for, made me seriously consider stopping getting McDonald's just for what they did to the original founders

A good solid film. There's one in Gozo. I ordered a Quarter Pounder, fries and a tea. It didn't take long. My number came up and I took them to the park where I also feed stray cats. I opened up the bag and there were chicken nuggets fit for a child but not for an adult. I've never been back.

The Founder is an engaging and thought-provoking movie that offers an in-depth look at the cutthroat world of business and entrepreneurship. Michael Keaton’s magnetic performance is the driving force behind the film, and while it could have benefited from a deeper exploration of certain characters and themes, it remains an entertaining and informative watch. Whether you love or loathe Ray Kroc, the movie presents an interesting case study in ambition, success, and the cost of achieving the American Dream.

I liked it because it doesn't focus only on one side of the story, but you can really feel the reasons of both. Worth a watch!

Been meaning to watch this for a long while and it didn't disappoint. Much sadder story than I imagined it would be.

Lays out how McDonaldization of society got started.

The film leads the audience from somewhat sympathising with the lead to despising him by the credits. Not only does the film spark interest, but truly invests the viewer, with exceptional performances and pacing. The film can only be faulted for how mistreated more likeable characters are in the plot, and how frustrating the result of this can be.

"The Founder" is a compelling film that chronicles the rise of the McDonald’s empire. Featuring Michael Keaton in the lead role, the movie delves into the complex journey of its protagonist as he navigates the restaurant industry to establish a thriving chain aligned with his vision of fast food. The narrative showcases Keaton's character as he cleverly manipulates the original concept of McDonald’s, which was founded by the McDonald brothers, who envisioned a clean and family-friendly dining experience. However, as Keaton's character expands the franchise, the essence of the original vision becomes distorted, transforming McDonald’s into a global sensation that sometimes sacrifices cleanliness and quality for profit. Overall, I found "The Founder" to be an engaging business film that offers valuable insights into the history of one of the most recognizable brands in the world. It’s an entertaining watch and I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone interested in the intricacies of business development and entrepreneurship.

Definitely a solid movie. Really was just scrolling on Netflix and thought this was interesting. There were a few moments that felt a little choppy but I got by. I also thought parts of the story moved a bit quick but it was still fine. Overall, not bad.

I won’t go into too much detail as to what happens, but the movie’s incredible writing manages to make it feel like a success story and a tragedy at the same time. Michael Keaton gives an an incredible performance as the film’s lead. His performance and the events shown in the film are, from what I understand, very accurate to the real events, with a few minor changes (as with any historical film). My only real complaint with the movie is that it’s a little difficult to watch, because if you’ve seen a McDonalds you know that it’s not going to end the way you hope it will.

Often disputed if this is the true side of the story or not, it is still a heartbreaking reality to watch the work of the MacDonald Brothers be trampled on in such a fashion and then turn out to be one of the biggest financial successes of all of history. With great acting, amazing foreshadowing and details, and a knack of telling a comprehensive, boring story in an exciting and thrilling way, Michael Keaton stands tall as the hateable Ray Kroc, and Nick Offerman, BJ Novak, Linda Cardallini, and John Carroll Lynch supports him marvelously with their acting that only fueled the aggression from Kroc and my hate toward the so-called “Founder” of McDonald's.

A cynical, but witty biopic about Ray Kroc's revolutionizing the fast-food industry at the cost of the actual founders of McDonalds and their integrity.

One of Michael Keaton Douglas's best and easily the best that I've seen him in any role ever. We are so used to seeing him in supernatural films, that we never get a realistic acting-side view of him. The way how we manipulates people, including Mac and Dick McDonald, was just heart-racing. He's incredible and this movie/story is so well-told.

A little slow in the middle and almost gave up, but I’m glad I stuck with it. Always fun to learn the origin story of a major corporation

I finally got around to seeing this movie after years of having it on my Netflix list. I thought that it would just piss me off to see Michael Keaton take advantage of the McDonald's brothers. But in reality if it weren't for Ray Kroc there probably would be no McDonald's restaurants today.

I was very surprised by this film. Well shot, with good pacing and Michael Keaton playing a character that you love to hate.

Keaton plays Ray Kroc so well here as you watch a man down on his luck and trying to earn a better life for himself and his family get completely wrapped up in the capitalist system that is so prevalent and powerful today. Almost as if this movie is a prequel to modern society (at least in the west). A little slow at times but overall this is a fantastic movie.
