The French Dispatch Reviews
Creatively comedic, and full of mouth-watering cinema. Very aesthetically pleasing and every star played their role. Also loved the newspaper format of the movie and how poetically it speaks to journalists and writers alike.
Self indulgent, lots of star fucking. Love most of Wes Andersons movies, but this one loses the thread. Interminable whats the point?
The movie was a very witty, poignant and sophisticated film.
Wes Anderson has made the MOST BORING movie of 2021. It's unfortunate. We're fans. Beautiful to look at, but for a film that relies on just that, it fails. The script needed to be MUCH better to keep up with the visuals.
Interesting concept gone horribly wrong
Hilarious Brirish humor. Loved it.
It dares you to blink, or look away. Each frame is a portrait. Imagine every medium blended together. I was wondering while I was grinning wildly the whole time and then it hit me- this is the first Wes Anderson creation I’ve seen in theaters. What a ride. I mean is that really saying anything different then what you expect from his genius? One of the first images that strikes me are the rats in the subway- aren’t we all just running in the rat race of work and life. Anderson’s love for words is radiant here- this is a film for generations. Everyone will find something “flavorful”. Also I’m convinced this was some of the most perfect casting choices in an ensemble that I’ve seen.
I enjoyed the quirky script, dialogue and the actors. However, by the last story, it was just al little too much uniqueness. It could have just the last story and the movie would have been much better.
Boring movie. The only likable thing was seeing familiar actors. The previews was almost as long as the movie itself. Of the previews, Spielberg's West Side Story is the only one we might see.
The ingenuity, absurdity and irony were brilliant. The only downside was that some of the storyline was so convoluted and went by so fast I missed some of it.
What a fun movie! Very Wes Anderson
A very clever film with innovative set decoration and art direction. The look of the film is initially 2 dimensional flat, almost, then merging into realistic"regular looking" film. Clearly a Wes Anderson film. Lots of dry humor and literary or cultural references. The "plot" takes the form of a movie version of the last issue of "The French Dispatch" a magazine feature of the newspaper of Ennui, Kansas., which appears to be a combination of The New Yorker and NY Times Magazine. The stories are interminable--interest wanes and humor disappears as you feel trapped in these disjointed essays, reportage, whatever. Plus, there are SO many cameo appearances it becomes distracting rather than fun when your mind says "O look, Bob Balaban, Christoph Waltz, Saoirse Ronan, etc. It was a marathon with not much payoff. Definitely for a special audience which adores absurdist satire and carries the torch for Wes Anderson.
The film was over-hyped. I expected more. Disappointment kills the fun. The film was clumsy, boring, and disjointed. And it certainly bore no resemblance to The New Yorker. It reminded more of The Paris Review.
I found it dull and far to full of itself.
I don't know. I'm still thinking about it.
Great film. Quirky stories and great set design
Going to need another go-around.
So creative, great stories, amazing cast! Very Wes Anderson
It was the Wes Anderson movie. If you loved and understood life aquatic The French Connection was made for you.
If you are a Wes Anderson fan- must see movie.
