The Gift Reviews

Apr 13, 2025

This was definitely one of the greatest movies I've seen in awhile! Well worth the watch and it really keeps surprising you as you watch it. I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it yet....

Although we guess quite quickly who the dangerous 'who' is, there are other unknowns that are revealed little by little, so nothing spoils the pleasure of watching. On the contrary: already knowing the nature of one of the most dangerous protagonists leads us to be interested in the secrets that are revealed little by little, and we curiously become more actors than spectators of this skillfully conducted intrigue. And for those who won't guess the 'who' like me, this psychological thriller will only seem more full of surprises.

A good psychological horror movie. Disturbing from the start, good acting.

Such a solid movie. It perfectly displays how your past may come back to haunt you. And how you should be careful who you mess with or how much you hurt people. This is a must watch.

Smart, surprizing, and well thought out. This movie has its perks and it was very enjoyable. A fine Gift, if you will. I love a good thriller reunion movie.

The most stupid movie ever made.

Great movie, I highly recommend it. Jason Bateman is great as always and Joel Edgerton does an exceptional job. I am not that smart but I have to say that I usually guess the plot twists in movies, this one I did not! I just expected the usual dangerous stalker story as many others. What a surprise!

3.5 stars; As a fan of movies with twists and turns, how could I not like this film? If you had asked me halfway through the picture, I would have had a totally different response. It was your standard stalker "I want to take over your life" plot...until it wasn't! Good acting all around, especially by the movie's Director, Joel Edgerton. Bottom line...slick.

The film started off very suspenseful, kept you curious to watch and see what was really happening. All kinds of bizarre behavior and crazy happenings take place. While the suspense is real, and you want this creepy Gordo gone, Simon never taken action to report him to the police. The wife does her own snooping around, actually getting drugged by Gordo one time, all to find out her husband was a bully in highschool. This where you want to just turn it off cause it's getting pretty stupid. Well, you don't turn it off and it continues on to more and more stupid. The ending is vague, leaving it open to the viewers interpretation. This could have been a great film, ruined with stupid highschool bs. I definitely do not recommend this film.

Encountering "The Gift" on Netflix, a movie seemingly popular based on its top 10 ranking, I expected a suspenseful and thrilling experience. However, as I delved into the film, I found myself puzzled and struggling to grasp its essence. The movie felt like a random selection thrown into the algorithm, lacking the substance that would captivate audiences. Despite its apparent acclaim from critics and high ratings, I couldn't fathom how anyone could sit through it. "The Gift" turned out to be a tedious and unappealing watch, with a plot that meandered aimlessly, failing to maintain my interest. The disjointed nature of the storyline left me disengaged to the point where I couldn't bring myself to finish it. Given the choice, I would opt for something as simple as watching Barney over enduring this dry and lackluster film.

Awful story. It seems the writers were going for some kind of attack on toxic masculinity by painting Simon as the bad guy towards the end, but if they wanted to do that, they shouldn’t of had Gordo potentially S/A Robyn. All this felt like the writers were trying to say Gordo’s actions were justified by Simon’s actions in high school(which they were absolutely not). I don’t know about anyone else, but I finished this movie feeling a lot more in favor of bullying.

If these unhinged madmen movies are your thing, "The Gift" might be just the change-of-pace present you've been wanting. The drawback is that it's a story that is getting repackaged and re-wrapped to the point that it seems like it should be called "The Re-Gifting."

Joel Edgerton did a great job directing and starring in this movie, so many times were it was very intense and a psychotic thriller, Jase Bateman as always is great, the ending was also great!

Jason Bateman is God. All of his performances are Shakesphere. Bro deserves an Oscar.

I always enjoy a nice psychological thriller, and this is a good one. We've seen this kind of movie before, but the writing was so well done that it manages to set itself apart from the crowd. It did shift gears a little bit around the halfway mark. Where the awkward and mysterious feeling narrative, took shape as a brilliant and deviously orchestrated revenge plot. I was genuinely interested in the story, which had enough twists and turns to keep me guessing till the very end. I did think the "big reveal" was a tad underwhelming, but the acting and dialogue was passable... even though it was mostly lacking any real sense of emotion. Still an immensely entertaining and masterfully conceived addition to the genre.
