The Girl Reviews
“The Girl” offers a stark view of the acclaimed director and his wife, who, by turning a blind eye, becomes entangled in the turmoil. Hedren, portrayed with precision by Miller, remains resilient and engaging, making the behind-the-scenes story compelling, even if the payoff is somewhat elusive.
Worth spend time to see the possible behind-the-scene after watching The Bird and Marnie.
Toby Jones is excellent as ever and Sienna Miller great. Seems like Hitchcock fans and producers of the schmaltzy 2012 hitchcock (same year) want this movie to disappear as it has a negative depiction of the fondly remembered director. I think it unlikely that there was nothing in the accusations of Tipi Hedren even if what she says are contradictory. It is unfortunate that contemporary culture is such that if impropriety is alleged then all the work of the artist is blacklisted. Gripping and more and more relevent post Weinstein/ me too.
I really enjoyed this film. It really shows Alfred Hitchcock and his dark side. Sienna Miller also does a stunning performance as Tippi Hedren. I would totally watch it again.
This film depicts Alfred Hitchcock's unhealthy obsession with a model he cast in the lead role of The Birds, Tippi Hedren. Toby Jones does a spot on job as Hitchcock, getting both the voice and the look right. Seanna Miller also does a great job as the increasingly fragile Tippi Hedren who suffers through Hitchcock's bullying to get the role of a lifetime. Unlike the other Hitchcock biopic starring Anthony Hopkins, this one paints Hitchcock it a much less favourable light, depicting him as a bully and sexual predator. How much is true with these biopics is always debatable but the film was entertaining and shocking. Worth seeing if you've ever enjoyed any of the man's films and a good comparison with the Anthony Hopkins version.
Beautiful performances and stunning Sienna Miller. However, I was disappointed to find out that this movie did not stand up to the truth of the story it was telling.

Setting aside the intricacies of the actual events that took place, this film just isn't as well constructed as its contemporary "Hitchcock." Most of what I found wanting in this film were the performances from both Jones and Miller, who come off as stiff, unyielding caricatures of Hedren and Hitchcock. Besides that I just didn't find the plot to be very suspenseful. The relationship between these two iconic figures just didn't play well onscreen. It's unsettling and mostly creepy to watch Hitchcock stumble through his yearnings for Hedren. There's supposed to be some level of warmth and comradery to their relationship, since they stick together long enough to make "The Birds" but I didn't get that at all. There's very little point to making this film, as much of it is unsubstantiated, or so subtle that it's unwatchable. I don't believe I am completely biased, I just didn't enjoy watching a relationship that didn't seem obsessive, only abusive. If Hitchcock had been better portrayed, and all his obsessions really gone into, this would have been much more sinister and reflect what the filmmakers were going for.
Sleazy character assassination at its worst, a film based on a story that has been proven a lie many times. Avoid.
This Hitchcock Biopic About How Hitchcock Managed To Destroy Both His Own & Model Tippi Hedren's Career, Is Great Viewing But Leaves The Viewer Wandering How Much Of This Is True. This Film Follows Hitchcock As He Casts Hedren As His New Leading Lady, Which Follows The Making Of 2 Films, The Birds & Marnie. This Is A Must See For All Hitchcock Fans, In Which Viewers Might Question The Events But Fans Of Drama, Will Appreciate What Is Being Done Here. An Excellently Made 온라인카지노추천 Movie & One That Rivals 2012's Hitchcock.
For most of the time, it lies there, totally inert and taking its sweet time to deliver very little.
Toby Jones, Sienna Miller, and Imelda Staunton are all superlative as Hitch, Tippy Hedren, Hitch's ever loyal but heartbroken wife, Alma Reville, respectively. However, this film which supposedly is an account of Hitch's and Hedren's rocky relationship during the filming of The Birds and Marnie, may in fact be an exaggerated fabrication. Here, Hitchcock is portrayed not just as obsessive and prone to some infatuation and cruelty towards his leading ladies, but also as a shameless sexual harrasser who tries to make ever more audacious quid pro quo demands from Hedren. Putting aside to what extent any of this happened, The Girl does struggle a bit to explain why Hedren would continue to put up with Hitch for the duration of two movie productions, but remains a fairly compelling drama nonetheless thanks to top notch performances, the evocative behind-the-scenes depictions of HItch's shooting methods, period detail, and handsome (made-for-tv) production values.
Was Hitchcock a leering predator? History hasn't fully decided. There's evidence on both sides. Accurate or not, The Girl presents a lyrical and riveting case study of alleged sexual harassment in Old Hollywood to tremendous success. Toby Jones is an absolute standout, managing to make his Hitchcock as repellent and frightening as he is pitiable. This is some truly powerful work.
It tries to explore the darker side of Hitchcock but instead becomes an overdressed sexual harassment drama with awkward performances and tone that would make even the most over-the-top soap opera shake it's head in disapproval
