The Guilty Reviews
Has potential. But ultimately the subtitles become very tedious
This danish movie (also made in English), is one of my favourites. I remember first time watching it, I was so confused, and a lot of the things that happens came as a big surprise. So I had to rewatch it, to catch on the all the spoilers throughout the movie. I love how it’s almost only one person the whole movie, then you know it’s a strong concept. Sometimes I think about this movie, and then I watch it, and it’s a pleasure every single time.
A finely-crafted, atmospheric, well-acted, surely-paced thriller with a plot twist that is satisfyingly shocking. Don't waste your time with the American remake, this is much better.
Well done gritty crime drama which takes place mostly over the phone. The acting & voice acting are intense & gut wrenching. Saw this many years ago, and enjoyed seeing it again.
One of the best films I've seen in the last 20 years!!! Just watch it!
At times its a little predictable but the movie is still compelling thanks to a terrific central performance. So glad one of these kinds of movies realizes that the second you leave the confined setting, the story is over.
This movie left me speechless. It is very intense and lots of twists and turns that have you literally on the edge of your seat the whole time. The middle is a little slow but the ending more then makes up for it.
Lots of restraint shown in the acting, cinematography, sound…no music at all. Well made. Would make a good play. Not exactly a movie you "enjoy" though
So brilliantly affecting as the lead character comes to see himself in the 911 call to which he doggedly remains connected/re-connected. I already keep an open mind, and keep demanding open-mindedness of myself. The Guilty takes self-scrutiny and critical thought to a new level of moral imperative.
edge of the seat police drama with great performances...
It wasn't believable at some points, but it was definitely worth watching for free on Amazon prime.
A bit far fetched for much of this to pass muster, but I suppose some of it can be overlooked for the story. It was well made and entertained. I enjoyed having Danish culture shown. Saw it on HBO.
Great stuff, I love films like this. 'The Guilty' is a film that takes place at just one location, something that always has the potential to hinder a film's watchability - but when it's done right, there is nothing more engrossing to watch, and this 2018 flick is just that. I did predict where it was going, but as I always say: predictability in itself is never a negative, for me anyway. I can still appreciate what a film attempts to do and can enjoy seeing the filmmakers pull it off. The whole 90 minutes or so of this is absorbing, it's portrayed superbly throughout - terrific dialogue, editing, sound and, of course, acting. Jakob Cedergren makes for a top quality lead. A brilliant performance! Given how the film is told, the rest of the cast don't have much to work with so it's very much the Cedergren show - but, still, the likes of Jessica Dinnage, Katinka Evers-Jahnsen and Johan Olsen add to the film positively with their more audible contributions. I'm fascinated to see how the American remake went of this. I'm a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal's and I think I have seen an image of him next to a red light, which I presume is in fact a shot out of the 2021 retelling. I'm hoping they did something with it similarly to Gyllenhaal's 2011 film 'Source Code', which I adore, but I shall see at some point in the future, hopefully. As for this, I'd highly recommend it!
Really good. Much better than the remake with Jake Gylenhaal if you don`t mind reading the translation in english. This movie is a "look" in to us "humans".
A disturbing and engaging portrait of a man slowly coming apart under the hidden - and gradually revealed - pressures of his life and the apparently innate defects in his (well acted - as always) personality. Gyllenhall is enthralling which is good because the story is him, in a room. Despite the limited set and cast, the story keeps you guessing and engaged right up to the shocking end.
Great movie, tantalizing thriller. Forget the remake and sticky with the original.
If you don't have half a brain, you will grasp how deep and well made this movie is. A must see. Well done.
This is a breath of fresh air for the DC universe.
Well-made. Tension maintained throughout. Unarguably ones of the finest works in the decades. You'll easily visualise all the incidents happen in this film only with the dialog.
