The Guilty Reviews
Jake sucks. Laughable when he tries to get emotional. Fell asleep twice. Forced to watch the ending because my husband has issues with closure. Oh the fake cry at the end. 😂
The is the worst, most tilting movie I’ve ever watched in my life. The main character says the wrong thing every time he speaks. If you want to be annoyed for 1.5 hours then you’d love this movie!
Jake made this movie, completely sold me despite a thin plot. Could see what was coming which meant the last third started to lose it’s umph and the tension faded instead of building.
Excellent thriller - I highly recommend everyone to see it.
While there may be an ethical code that possibly wasn’t fully considered and without having seen the original, what really elevate this American remake to standout as top tier in its categorization isn’t just the thrillingly executed turns but Gyllenhaal’s raw resonance with quite an emotional weight that affectively reverberates. (B+)
standout performances throughout the cast
Phobic film that is just one place with intense interaction with other characters. In the end, you find out why he is to blame.
I started watching this movie on Netflix. I remembered it from ads for it a few years ago. I began watching it. I was confused at first because I didn't understand what the 911 operator Joe was going through. The movie did not make it clear in the beginning. Only at the very end did I even put it together about Joe. However I was still in the dark about a lot of things. So I was confused about Joe's personal issues he was going through. The rest of the movie was interesting with the dialog between him and a woman and having to do with her baby. I don't want to give the ending away, but the movie is worth a watch if you have nothing better to do. But for me that is about it.l
This movie deserves much more loven then it gets, especially from the audience score. The twists are really well placed and heartbreaking. Great acting and not your typical genre setting. I haven't watched the original but I am really glad I gave this movie a chance
Super solid, thought Jake Gyllenhaal is great (per usual). It's a little slow but there's a chunk of about 30 minutes that had me listening and unknowingly fidgeting and holding my breathe.
I would recommend the original, Danish version in a heartbeat. I would never recommend the American remake to anyone. Do yourself a favor and just watch the original version.
I liked it I thought it was a solid movie and great acting considering you needed to show nearly all the emotions and actions through audio. I also enjoyed the breadcrumbs of info that were dropped, it didn't quite give us the full picture at the end but it still felt complete.
What an awful made movie. If you want to watch a poor actor in a call center with no other actors in the movie and waste two hours of your time then watch this. If you value your time and hate awful movies then skip this movie. Could have been such a good movie, but nope…
This movie surprised me. Great acting from Jake Gyleenhaal.
Well, well, well, what do we have here? Another Jake Gyllenhaal Netflix film. The Guilty which I thought was going to be thrilling but what I saw is just Jake Gyllenhaal being in one place and no more. Joe Baylor who is a troubled LAPD officer works the night shift at a 911 call center while awaiting a court hearing for an incident that occurred on duty eight months prior. He answers a call from Emily Lighton, a woman that reveals she has been abducted. While traveling in a white van, Emily is forced to hang up before she can provide more details. Joe relays the information to the California Highway Patrol, who cannot locate the van without a license plate number. This is not really thrilling, this is more like a crime drama with a good performance by Jake Gyllenhaal and from what I saw is that it co-stars Ethan Hawke and Paul Deno but did not make any appearances whatsoever. They're just have voices on the phones on the computer. The film had a good concept I must admit but it somehow seems boring for me even I'm supposed to enjoy it to some extent but I've heard that this is not the original film. The original version is from the 2010's or god knows what whereas the remake by Antoine Fuqua. No wonder why I'm not familiar with this type of movie I've never heard of and intrigued with. Maybe I was expecting more but there's something I'm missing here but for what it is, I'm not a massive fan but it was all right as it is even for Jake Gyllenhaal and Antoine Fuqua.
For the first 1h 5m I'm enjoying myself, after that it ruins that first 1h 5m and is rather silly.
I started watching this movie from its synopsis only, looking for something on netflix that would immediately draw my attention within the first 30mins, and boy did this film do just that. there are so many hidden gems and details that just make this movie so enticing. I have never heard of the danish version until reading reviews after watching, and I must say it seems that people who watch the guilty with no prior knowledge of it's remake (like me) will appreciate and enjoy the show allot more. only 'slight' downside was that I could guess the plot twist which didn't really make it as surprising as I would've hoped, however the film compensates for that with how it's grips your attention and every fibre on my body was focused on the screen 😂. Really good watch if you want something quick but enticing. this movie will definitely not be leaving my mind for a couple weeks.
Very thrilling story which took me by surprise cause of it only taking place in the office. Great acting but lacked a bit of backstory to the main character. Was not expecting the twist which was a great shocker. Very thrilling thriller
This isn't a horrible movie; but you'll probably figure out the "twist" long before it's revealed. It's supposed to be an edge of your seat kind of flick, I guess; but it fails.
The movie seems unfinished... There is suspense and drama, but there isn't a back story that explains what's happening at the present with Joe, or what's happening with Emily. There was definitely some room for background story of the main characters. Jake's performance is great, you can see he really tried to add some depth to his character.
