I really enjoy watching movies based on real life, and The Hill fits in that category. Mr. Quaid did a true to life portrayal of a rural Southern preacher and the young actors made for very credible boys raised in a strict Christian setting. The pastor Dad learns his lesson in the end, that God’s grace comes in different places and through the different talents He bestows upon His children. His stubbornness is melted by God as he realizes he has denied his son the very gift God had given the young man, even if only for a short season.

Interesting disparity between the critics and audience for a movie with acute christian undertones. A good, watchable film with an excellent moral message and real emotion. I liked it.

I always enjoy a true, feel good story. Dennis Quaid usually does these well but this one fell flat for me. Long, slow and kinda boring.

Excellent story, based on a real person, and it really pulls you in. It was difficult to watch, at times, just because life and people can be very difficult and this portrays a heavy side of that. It's truly a film that will make you think about your own life and family relationships.

Brought me to tears. This is a sincere movie for sports fans and the whole family.

Uplifting story with very good acting. There really wasn’t a weak performance in the film. The story itself was predictable but wonderfully void of hate. Reinforced strong family values but portrayed Christians in an unfavorable light.

This movie caught me in the pit of my stomach from the beginning. The actors performed wonderfully. I recommend this movie to any and everyone. Disabilities do not define us and this young man proved it

What an odd film. Why is grandma's hair blue? Why is 70 year old Dennis Quaid playing the father? His body language is odd and jerky and all the grimacing is incredibly distracting. Is he having a stroke? Why are we being beaten over the head with a damn bible? Why so many clichés? Why do I feel like I saw this movie in the 80's? Ugh. I couldn't bear another minute of being irritated...

The Dad (Dennis Quaid) was so unbearable and insufferable it ruined the film. It was infuriating watching him - a deeply unlikable character. This movie will hopefully turn people away from religion and serve as a warning that religious radicalism breeds irrational, immoral, crooked people who will try to coerce you not to follow your dreams in the Name of God.

A great story about what God can do in a man's heart. And I don't mean Ricky's.

So, critic reviews are horrible and audience is beyond the universe! My wufe and I loved the feel good show and never lost focus. Worth while watching if you like feel good movies. It is a home run. If you want to laugh, refer to critic reviews after watching the movie. Hilarious as many of the experts looking at some sort of checklist and seeking controversy. Good grief. Is a very good movie what we enjoy or what critics say what is good based on their thoughts what meets their check list of what we should enjoy. Watch the movie! Laugh at the critics.

Its single biggest downfall lies in different characters including baseball commentators continually hammering into oblivion the same message over and over again to the point where it completely loses its overall intended impact on the viewer. The old adage of "less is more" was clearly lost on Director Jeff Celentano and his writing team. This could have been a really good and far more inspirational movie in different and more competent hands.

What could be a fun biopic is ruined by poor writing, stereotypical characters, and being clobbered over the head with Christian tropes. The filmmaking doesn't help matters, either. Character development is lacking, and errors in the film abound (the character Gracie's eyes change colour from blue/green as a child to brown as an adult). One to miss.
