The Host Reviews
I do wonder if American viewers really understand the satirical materials. You do know that the Koreans are the host and you Americans are the monsters, right?
Korean monster movie. A little girl gets kidnapped by a River monster. The family is determined to rescue her. Average. Tries to be funny but at the same time is cruel. No spoilers but maybe trying to be different, it ends up being cruel. Also special effects are bad ???/5 on Max
I can see why Tarantino picked this movie in his top 20 list, and called the director Bong out for having 70’s Spielberg type genre entertainment. I never had more fun in any other monster movies than this one.
Decent creature feature, very underrated film
Clever, funny, witty and sad. A must see roller coaster master work. Bong Joon Ho is as great as a great director can be.
How is this movie so underrated? Seriously this is actually the best kaiju movie outside of a franchise, maybe even better than Godzilla Minus One.
It maybe was scary during Covid. This movie is a joke now. I don’t understand how it has such high ratings
One of the best creatures ever. Loved this horror movie. The characters and story were great. The only negative was the run time. Tim Treakle
Completely lacking in most of the horror aspects that it advertises, though successful in most other aspects, "The Host" is a decently made film with some exciting and entertaining scenes that help mask the clearly outdated CGI. Characters were very well done, and the acting is extremely well.
A oscar worthy monster movie
A well made Korean creature feature.
讽刺和寓意鍑很富有内涵,但是哗情自身感觉璐精彩,但演绎和导演没的说
Boosting dumbfounding special effects of an amphibian grotesque wrecking havoc, Bong Joon-ho's breakout feature is also an anomalous entry in the monster horror genre that adroitly amalgamates dark humour, political satire, ferocious suspense to tell an otherwise heartwarming story about a father's unyielding resolution to rescue his captive daughter.
Great film that is basically two main threads - a horror/monster film, and a family redemption film. It was the first film i had seen with Kang ho Song (the protagonist) in and it really shows that he is a great actor. I dont have any criticisms really, its a great movie.
This film has everything you could want in a monster movie, characters that you care about, a good story, an environmental message that isn't crammed down your throat and a pretty good creature to boot. Hollywood could learn so much from this film, but they are so wrapped up in politics they churn out nonsense instead
The Host is a thrilling and satirical look at what peril occurs during such a frightening experience of quarantine, and at the movie's heart we find ourselves nervously praying for a family from start to finish.
???????????
An usual movie that is hard to categorize. Solid cinematography, beautiful philosophy, semi-implicit political satire.
Great monster/horror film, with some comedy, also makes Americans look stupid. Might be a weird watch if you don't know Korean cinema.
There is a lot going on here as a mix of genres merge into a sometimes fun, but mostly messy experience. It starts off as a monster movie, but it slowly divulges into a satire that just is not too interesting. There is a little bit of comedy that hits, but it is not enough to make this a film I will re-watch. Not helping the film either, the CGI has aged horribly.
