The Innocents Reviews
Lol 97% oh jesus, this site really is the worst review site ever, I'm baffled there even allowed to make diabolical stuff like this & u have nutters on here giving it an almost perfect film lol,, the planets getting messed up enough last thing we need is psychosis like this on film, and I like some horrors but this, putting glass in a disabled girls shoe, and stamping on cat, psychotic writer was all I was thinking, no need 4 it, hopefully the writer & director have kids like this and do something really bad to them 😀
I personally wouldn’t recommend this film… regardless of artistic license for a horror movie, which it is… if you like cats, do not watch this, completely disgusting and unnecessary! Btw… I stopped watching it as soon as I saw what might happen the cat… having read the plot later, I’m glad I turned this horrible film off!
I cannot praise this film enough. Very slow, but be patient because it delivers an amazing story. The child actors are stunning, Alva Brysmo Ramstad is outstanding, forget the flaccid Oscars, this is what brilliant acting is about, not showy bullshit "performance" but natural, engaging and in this case chilling. It captures the cruelty, viscousness and innocence, hence the title, of what it is to be a child. I highly recommend this movie, one of the best I have seen this year.
Quietly powerful, affecting and very well acted by the young cast. It didn't fully explain some aspects such the reason for their abilities but maybe that made it all the more mysterious. It stayed with me long after I'd watched it, which is often the mark of an excellent movie.
The plot was tense enough to hold my attention but the ending scene with a frickin' vortex of little blonde haired blue eyed nordic children solemnly watching as two of their own murder a brown boy is just a bit too questionable for my taste given the general attitude toward immigrants in the nordics.
Was an entertaining movie. The only thing that keeps this at 3 stars vs higher is the fact the plot did not explain how all of these kids acquired their special gifts. I get you need to have a certain suspension of disbelief when watching certain movies but c'mon. How exactly did these kids get these abilities? Just seems they could have explained something,.
Utter garbage. Unrelentingly annoying. Repulsive.
Unnecessary animal cruelty scenes. Otherwise great acting by the children.
There’s underlying terror towards unfathomable power with grappling complication at youthful hands, pressurizing their moral innocence in a form of test adjacent to their livelihoods. This sort of supernatural phenomenon is a continuous trope with effective impact now dated and differentiated elsewhere, leaving only narrative intrigue that requires subversion for true potential. There must’ve been a promise surrounding whatever compel this film gave, only to find it as a rehashed routine more-so aimed towards the eponymous target under thematic enlightenment. Effectively subverted in further twisting the shared phenomena amidst a broader suggestion that seems to fit more naturally rooted and well-embraced intuitively under performative acknowledgement to progress such storyline. Wonderful child actors in this film, which is NOT for little children. Great direction and cinematography in the telling of this unusual tale.
One of those psychological horrors that creeps into the subconscious and resides there for longer than you'd like. It's a quiet film, it's power rests in the unsettling performances of the child actors. The filmmakers know how to use suspense without resorting to tropes. The direction, writing and acting told a unique story and invited us on the journey. This really isn't a movie up for debate, take it as it is or don't bother. The story unfolded in a fashion that I didn't anticipate. In that way it didn't live up to my expectations, but it didn't disappoint either. I appreciate an original story well told and this was one of them.
One of the greatest horror films of the 21st century. Terrifying and completely mesmerizing.
Hugely surprising and highly entertaining. Better watch out for this one. It packs a truly terrifying punch. It's a re-watch for sure.
It's an incredible movie on so many levels, but dark and disturbing, with one particular scene that is almost unwatchable. I highly recommend it to people who have the stomach. Cat lovers; proceed with caution.
a massive massive fave, one of the best. The only problem is i guess i can't quite understand the foreign language in the film. I am not sure if there is one with English subtitles though.
Extreme deeply touching Horror Drama between strangely connected kids in a norwegian housing block settlement. The childish minds are completely overwhelmed by their situation of having metaphysical powers at their disposal and thus fall into a maelstrom of violence that no one but themselves can stop... I haven't seen a horror movie in a long time that has found such a unique approach to the genre since "Funny Games".
Nice idea but, toooo much Kids for a shoking movie.
Slower paced eerie horror whose dynamics are not dynamic enough despite a message worth considering.
A very intriguing fantasy/mystery/supernatural thriller. Its slow building story evolves at just the right pace for its mystery to grow with it. What we understand of the characters evolves with each event, and the eeriness and suspense build as we see the links form and strengthen between them. This has moments of true horror about it, but it always holds itself at the psychological, supernatural thriller threshold which I think gives it more gravitas - the levels of horror it could have delivered upon within the confines of the story would have cheapened the thrill and the mystery. The young cast are absolutely brilliant! I will definitely be keeping a keen eye on more from Eskil Vogt
