The Jesus Rolls Reviews
A film with absolutely no redeeming value. Not interesting. A waste of time you will never get back.
This is a decent film but it's not the film that was marketed. I suspect it may have been Turturro's way of finally getting funding for his passion project. However, it ultimately undermines the film. As marketing it draws an audience that, even if they'd otherwise be potentially receptive, are expecting something almost entirely different. -- The film watched like a 90s French film. Obviously, learning that it's a remake of a 1970s French film and that Turturro pursued making it for as long as he did, this makes sense. However, it's not a Coen Brothers style film or a one that often finds a larger audience in the US. -- The scenes which make reference to bowling or try to connect it to Jesus as a character within The Big Lebowski are sloppily inserted and feel out-of-place. None of them have any baring at all on the plot. The longest of these scenes seems like it was simply an excuse to shoot promo photos and for Turturro to recreate the character's signature move of licking the ball. Overall, the film misses the mark not on the merits of the main plot or characters but this single aspect. They could have easily been left on the cutting room floor, the film marketed for what it was and received a significantly different reception.
Only thing that I can say about this movie is that it's a piece of crap.Wasted hour and half of time that I wish I could get back. Why would producers even invest in a film like this?
Don't be fooled, nothing feels like Lebowski. Not an awful movie, but you won't be quoting it. They used sex to keep you watching. Not much else.
It was kind of all over the place, very odd. But it has charm, in a fucked up way. No idea what was happening at any given time.
I wanted to like it but it was just so bad.
John Turturro, Bobby Cannavale, Christopher Walken for 15 seconds (he was smart). Audrey Tautou and a cast of others you will recognize in this Completely forgettable Stink Bomb! So much potential with this wacky character John Turturro created, what happened? Worst written waste of time I have seen in recent times. Terrible simply isn't enough. .005 out of 100.👎💩
The Character Jesus Q as introduced in "The Big Lebowski" was very funny and you immediately wanted to explore this character's world in a sequel to the original film. The problem is that there is no tie in that helps develop the plot. The opening scene suggests that Jesus would resume his career as a bowler and we would see him climb to the top of professional bowling after his stretch in prison. But the entire plot of the story was just as satisfying as the character Marie's sex life. A lot of build up and no pay off. The humor was accidental at best and the story went nowhere, literally, as the ending suggests. The actors were not the problem with this project. The performance was adequate but the script was a mess. I believe that in the end if the writer and director would have come together and taken a little more time to THINK about the journey that they wanted their characters to explore that this film could have been amazing. Maybe a reboot could save a great title and maybe next time get Jeff Bridges and John Goodman to make a cameo appearance. Maybe at the bowling alley, it couldn't hurt. Just keep firing those "Big Lebowski" references until something goes "Click".
As others have said this would have been better without trying to tie it to the big lebowski. They tossed in lines from it but never established the dude ( or Jesus)vibe.
I love this movie! Have an open mind. It's got nothing to do with Lebowski and it's a very quirky fun movie
Horrible sequel. Other than the character himself there is no connection to Lebowski. It is called Jesus Rolls but there are no bowling scenes. Who thought this was a good idea?
A story with a a lot of funny moments and the acting is really good. Also, a movie with Susan Sarandon, can never be bad.
Does Jesus and Susan dirty
A lovely, hilarious, star-studded, character master class with expert direction and a singular style that only the great John Turturro could bring to life.
This could be a long one, as I'm a HUGE Big Lebowski fan. But I'll keep it brief. This film has ZIP to do with Lebowski. And that's ok. It is it's own work of many layers. Like the Big Lebowski, it took a few watches to see some deeper themes. Modern relationships, male and female roles etc etc. So although right now it's at 22%... That's about where Lebowski started in 1998... Who knows
Sit back, relax and enjoy - like you're watching a film in the 1970's and embracing how films were in the 1970's. But if you bring your how films are and should be in the 2020's edge? - that's the wrong spirit for this one. Thank you Coen brothers for licensing the character for this!
Quirky, weird, fun. Incredible cast. If you like outre this is great.
