The Legend of Ochi Reviews
Started strong, quickly fell off. HARD.
The Legend of Ochi is alright but is basically a disgusting movie, scary and Gorey, the part of Holy #@%$ is the part that blasted space. I just had a field trip today and I thought we were gonna watch the Minecraft Movie, instead of this movie. I don't think it's good or bad, it's basically either. I will say that the movie is like a movie, that basically is like a roller-coaster, but endless. So, 3/5 stars.
This movie is not good at all it made me feel gross from how bad it was. I thought it was made a few years ago but the fact that it was made this year is crazy. Also they dragged down some famous actors too. The story felt so random and the main character was not likable at all. Overall I really wish I didn’t see it and I was disappointed.
I watched this in theater with my 5 year old boy. It was absolutely stunning and I was certain that they used CGI to create the Ochis to look like real puppets only to realize afterwards that they actually WERE real puppets! The Ochis felt so real their background felt so much like true folk lore that I thought it was based on real stories. The music was beautiful, and the painted backgrounds made it feel like a lovely 80s fantasy film. The plot is simple and not over encumbered, which was great for my kid, but also had enough drama to entertain me. There were some scarier parts but nothing inappropriate for kids. I loved that they didn't rely on gags and flashy effects to hold the audience's attention. My son gave it 4 thumbs up and said "weird but great".
'The Legend of Ochi' is a visually dazzling throwback family feature anchored by stunning craftsmanship but heavily marred by its predictable structure and narrative.
Walked out of the theater after 20-30 minutes. So loud my Apple Watch was giving warnings to leave the high noise environment. Tortuous experience.
Slow and painful to watch. The soundtrack sounds like a middle school orchestra. Dingy sets. Bizarre music. Listless characters. Depressing aftertaste Left after the first 30 minutes.
The move has a great moral undertone and absolutely wonderful music. Definitely more of film for adults than children to appreciate.
Took 7 year old Grandson he was thrilled to see it Reminded me of Gremlins Something for the young but enjoyed. The cuteness and themes that are in it.
Wonderfully unrushed with plenty of room to let the scenery shine. Dialog is sparse but seldom wasted. Loved the attitude of the kids, their blunt opinions and the mix of real feeling places and exaggerated fantasy settings. Overall you know how it’s going to end but the arc of each character leaves enough room for some guessing exactly what role they’ll play. The movie avoids spoon feeding you everything with a few notable exceptions where dialog is repeated as voiceover where it might be better unsaid.
It was so cute, it totally transport you to a different world. Think like ET or never-ending story you get transported somewhere more completely different. They did a really good job with taking you into the story. Also love that they didnt do the Bambi.
The Legend of Ochi is somewhat conventional and lax under the surface, but when it comes to crafting a mystical and enchanting aesthetic, it's a screeching success.
Not enough OCHI by half
Kids loved it, with important messages about environment and family.
The overall message of the movie was wonderful and the graphics for the creatures was pretty great. The overall storyline was pretty terrible and the adult actors just didn’t pull it off.. I love the big screen, but wait until this one comes out at home.
Something was missing. I wanted more fantasy and more challenges in the movie. The scenery is beautiful and so are the creatures. Beautiful music but it needed more.
Theres an hour forty of my life Ill ever get back save your money on this one .
I liked the acting overall. The puppetry was awesome, the main reason I saw this movie. I want more puppets! Loved the noises the creatures made. My wife and I felt like this would have been better as a series because it has a lot of potential, but to tell all of this in an 1H30m movie well is difficult, in my opinion. Willem Dafoe was hilarious, but I feel like I needed more context. Something felt like it was missing. The CGI was not good on screen, either, especially the water scenes. I did like it overall, but it's not something I would recommend to my friends, sadly. But what I got from this was: the universe has potential and I hope it makes room for more puppeteers!
Quite slow and dull. Willem Dafoe the only interesting character and provides the one funny moment. Otherwise, forgettable.
Wait til it comes out on streaming. It was slow to developing, didn’t really care about the characters. The dialog was poor. The story was weird. The only good part was the baby ochi.
