The Lodge Reviews
I watched this movie because reddit loved it. Most boring slow paced horror movie I've seen in years. If you like your horror movies to have the pacing of molasses, no suspense, and a whole lot of nothing happening, this is the movie for you.
The movie was almost god tier but was missing some substance, I got antsy for it to be over and that kind of ruined the ending for me a bit. However, I think about this movie probably more than any other which is why it's 4 stars and not 3, the ending is nanners I just have ADHD and it was a bit too slow for me to fully enjoy it in the moment.
A film as subtle as it is chilling. Perfect actors, especially the lead actress who is outstanding, but everyone is great, including the children and even the dog (barely an exaggeration)! You believe it from start to finish... There's even real snow (instead of the fake powdered stuff you get in Hollywood films)! Honestly, I have nothing to criticize about this film. I really enjoyed it...
Top cast. The children and their father's girlfriend (Keough), put on an incredibly frightening show. As the settings are more believable & realistic (ie, not supernatural), the film becomes all the more scary. I've watched it more than once, and it's just as good second time around. Brilliant for a real scare!!
Very predictable and kind of obvious. It hits the ridiculous point.
I'm sorry but the only part of this movie that was really good was the fact that the kids mentally destroyed her and then act so innocent like HAHAHAHA
Movie had a good story line but there was so much anticipation of what would happen next. It was confusing and scary. I particularly like watching psychological thrillers but this is one movie I wouldn’t watch a second time.
No idea how anyone actually got through this movie or why it even has a decent rating. It's sooooooooo slow. Nothing even happens until well after an hour in. 2 hour movie like watching paint dry. I skipped through so much of it because the scenes are so drawn out. Pass on this one.
What parent would force children to be isolated with their new partner? What cinematography would be so dark it's hard to tell what's going on? This fim was too confusing for the viewer.
This is one of the first movies in recent memory that kept me guessing. Assuming the backstory of the protagonist, the reality of the situation described doesn’t come as a surprise, but is preformed seamlessly. Aside from a couple of personal preferences in how the story was told, this movie holds its own in the realm of psychological thrillers.
Creepy horror flick in the vein of The Shining. Unexpected twists and turns.
If you like psychological thrillers, you will like The Lodge. Realistically creepy and keeps you guessing.
It seemed to have potential but halfway through I knew it was a dud. The plot was so thin and predictable. The non-existent ending didn't help the cause either. Don't bother with this one. That Riley Keough could be Kristen Stewart's twin sister. 75% hmmmmm.
An excellent psychological horror - well made and acted.
Trigger warning: dead dog—the only thing that was sad.
A psychological thriller that has it's fair share of twists and turns. Dragged a little in places. Couple of plot holes (spoiler alert) - how did the boy fake hanging by his own neck? Not explained. How did the two kids mock up a very decent newspaper story headlining their own deaths. Without any electricity or a computer! Notwithstanding a decent film with some good ideas. For some bizarre reason I actually agree with the critics. Definitely worth a watch.
Well-acted slow burn with thoughtful and scary twists. Fantastic horror
This film had the potential to be good but the ultimate ending was just predictable. I don't like films where psychosis is the chief motivator for an antagonist. It's just lazy plot writing I'm afraid.
