The Marksman Reviews
A film full of commonplaces, obviousness, and stereotypes unthinkable for the times in which we live. [Full review in Spanish]

Robert Lorenz, the director and one of three cowriters, usually produces Clint Eastwood flicks, and even the film’s bonus features reference them. Neeson makes a more affable protagonist than curmudgeon Eastwood

Liam Neeson as a Farmer/Marksman/Defender The same stuff he always plays Enjoyable Surface level action

Is nothing but trope-filled inconsequential scenes that follow the hollow action thriller playbook genre step by each yawn-inducing step.
| Original Score: 1.5/5 | Sep 11, 2022
The Marksman offers Liam Neeson the opportunity to embody a classic Clint Eastwood-esque character in a conventional yet still compelling action drama.

There’s enough to keep you involved but it’s nothing you haven’t seen before.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Aug 17, 2022
Unfortunately though, there isn't much substance in the screenplay by Chris Charles, Danny Kravitz and Robert Lorenz to flesh out the idea...
| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 17, 2022
Another solid Neeson performance in an otherwise generic continuation of the many films in his recent filmography.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Apr 10, 2022
By no means the worst film in Neeson's action portfolio, The Marksman is possibly his most reflective and, dare we say it, emotional.
| Original Score: 12/20 | Nov 30, 2021
There's enough here to give the viewer something to chew on, even if the pic mostly buries important talking points in favor of routine action and predictable drama.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Nov 23, 2021
The Marksman does just enough with its familiar premise to be an adequately entertaining Western outing. However, the noticeable shortcomings here leave a lot to be desired.

Just to see the ageless, though grizzled star on the screen, as large as the Arizona desert invites viewing. leaves an impression because its star rises above the ordinary.

The Marksman is a bit like Logan, without the superpowers and without the same emotional kickers. It's not the worst Liam Neeson action movie out there, but it's clear the formula is becoming well worn.
| Original Score: 2.5/5 | Nov 2, 2021
...while some will argue that there's nothing new here, it's a classic story, well told and acted...
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 26, 2021
The Marksman is a well balanced act of action and drama. A straight story with enough plot twists to keep you entertained for 108 minutes. A story about doing whats right no matter the consequences, with perhaps an unorthodox but still suitable ending.

It does nothing original, even if it does it fairly well.

The journey is filled with fear and an unexpected friendship, but there's a much needed boost to make The Marksman more than mediocre.

[The Marksman] is designed only to be satisfying, and even though Jim doesn't do much marksman-ing until the last 15 minutes or so, it is indeed just that.

Yes, Liam Neeson phones it in once again, but at least it's a decent conversation.

Just as reliably as the swallows migrate annually to Capistrano, audiences can expect Liam Neeson to regularly show up in a movie that finds him beating the living hell out of various villains.
