Very important story!

Nearly allowed the relatively low rating to put me off. So glad that I did not. wow, just wow. Humanity hidden behind modern civilisation gives the Spanish inquisition a run for their money.

An education for all. Monstrous injustice is fuelled by (understandable) fear and anger. The central character is played with subtlety and nuance. At first, he appears to be guilty of something but it's not clear how far his involvement goes; by the end, we are convinced of his innocence. This uncertainty keeps our interest through the first half of the film, after which our righteous fury at his treatment takes over.

Honestly one of the best movies I've ever watched i swear I started crying like a dog at the end i felt so bad for him its sad he didn’t get the justice he deserved but I hope him and his wife live a good and happy life i just wish they’d showed us what happened to his first wife. That part kind of confused me but it was an amazing movie nonetheless i plan on buying his book as well, if I find it that is😅. But if you plan on watching this absolute masterpiece be prepared to cry lol, may god be with us all .🤍

"The Land of the Free" and it's politics, no surprises here. They can do whatever they want. Nothing "inspiring" about this movie, it's not INSPIRING! It's difficult to watch (if you're not 'murrrican) and it will make you angry (if you're not already). America IS not, never WAS and never WILL BE great.

A very good film about the abuses of torcher and kidnappings that took place following 9/11.

Really great film. Excellent acting. Really annoyed me that after 2 hours they couldn't show his next trial and him being released.... They just skipped straight over it.

This movie shows the real side of the world ,the truth behind America and showing muslims as a terrorist.. I don't even know how this movie got accepted by the US.

Heavy handed but on that front it mostly gets a pass for covering such shameful recent history that has unfortunately been forgotten by the public at large.

The movie has excellent acting and screen play. It is not entertaining but intense and unfortunately educational, unfortunate because it depicts a despicable chapter in recent american history. The movie will leave the viewer with a lot to ponder.

One of the best movies I've seen in the last decade. The acting is superb and while we all know what the we did as a nation, seeing the story is eye opening. Why Bush and Cheney are still walking free is a mystery. And Obama's actions were shameful as well.

The movie is so well done, from start to finish. The actors are outstanding. I knew the history, but not in this detail and seeing what happened brought it to light. I am so glad it exposed the atrocities that occurred.

Love Jodie foster, and this story was compelling although generic and fairly straightforward but not as dramatic as it could have been. Definitely good film. Also, when Ariana locked that donut and said she hates Americans, this film will put that comment into better context.

moving powerful great performanes across the board

Great acting, especially by Tahar Rahim. Thought I knew lots about the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, but this film was a real eye-opener. Years of mistreatment made my stomach turn, but worse is the US government policy. Shocked that Obama administration was part of the abuse.

I had read Guantánamo Diary, a great book (even with redactions) so I came in with low expectations for a Hollywood adaption. In that respect I was pleasantly surprised. Many of Slahi's most harrowing experiences get screen time. The producers have to displace the authors story onto white protagonists, Cumberbatch and Foster. a western media project it's branded with the propagandistic, flattering "white savior" narrative to fit western media. That said, it cleaves relatively close to the authors personal story. The Mauritanian sneaks up on you with torture and sexual humiliation plus the terrorizing of the boat trip into international waters. So I commend Netflix willingness to introduce to a mass audience to the monstrous injustices the United States, perpetrates on people of color, a world whites like me do not experience and which propaganda like Zero Dark Thirty & Guy Richie's The Covenant deliberately conceal. I am a fan of Foster and Cumberbatch, and I think each of them with their limited roles play their characters expertly. Hakin should have gotten best Actor not Smith in ‘23. I give the Director high marks for visualization. It is very stylishly shot. W.C.

"The Mauritanian" is a well-made film that while difficult to get through at times, is effective all the way through. I found myself engaged with the story and while it is pretty frustrating to learn about, I do feel it is an important piece of recent history. The performances are very good and the movie does a lot with a few key actors in the forefront. I think the movie does what it sets out to do well. It might not be the best legal thriller ever made, but it is still a very good one that elicits a variety of emotions while watching it. I felt like it could have explored a few more things a bit in-depth as it does seem to gloss over a few key plot points, but for the most part, I liked how tight the pacing was. Overall, it is a tough but important movie that is boosted by some very strong performances.

Las películas basadas en hechos reales solo demuestran el cómo los humanos no somos tan diferentes a los antagonistas de películas redondas del "Bien vs el Mal", es aterrador, pero a la vez necesario conocer historias cómo las de Mohamedou, dónde no digo que la trama no trate de manipular al espectador en encariñarse con él, pero no cabe duda que lo que este hombre vivió fue horrible; esta película más que ser un mensaje político me parece que habla del cómo la sociedad desde la superficialidad creemos que estamos haciendo un cambio en la lucha por la igualdad, sin darnos cuenta que hay muchos casos de los cuáles no nos enteramos y que son peores que la gran mayoría en los que metemos nuestra cuchara. No hay que negarlo, la película es redonda en su narrativa, aunque no hayas leído el libro, sabes lo que va a pasar, pero lo interesante de las películas legales está en el cómo se resuelve, lo cual las vuelve atrapantes, este tipo de películas casi nunca hablan de los perdedores, siempre hablan de los que de alguna forma cambiaron el sistematizado circulo de la ley, no digo que en cambiar la misma ley, sino en mostrarnos aunque sea a nosotros desde fuera el cómo la ley y la misma sociedad no tratamos de igual manera a todos, ya sea por prejuicios o por el simple hecho de creer que cierto grupo de personas es de X forma por malas experiencias totalmente personales, cómo le pasa en la película al personaje de Stuart, que en conforme avanza la película se quita la venda del prejuicio de sus ojos y se da cuenta que tal vez el enemigo no es al que vemos diferente si no el extracto social en el que estamos inmiscuidos, lo cual no es malo; todos tenemos derecho al cambio porque seriamos parte del problema si al ver estas conductas "extrañas" siguiéramos sin mover las cejas, lo que nos convertiría en parte del mismo problema, Stuart se da cuenta y prefiere no continuar con él caso, en el cuál posiblemente no apoye a las víctimas, pero a veces ayudamos más haciéndonos a un lado, que en querer eliminar el problema o ser parte de la solución; y ahí es donde la película se vuelve propositiva, en ver estos lados totalmente opuestos llegar a una misma resolución, el de Stuart y el de Nancy, en donde ella es una obsesiva en la búsqueda de la igualdad y en creer que todos son inocentes hasta que se demuestra lo contrario, aunque sus acciones den a pensar lo contrario. Atrapando al espectador en si realmente Mohamedou es culpable o no. La visión del director se cumple y nos regalan diferentes POV, el "victimario", la "victima" y el "defensor", en donde a través de ellos podemos empatizar en el cómo ven este conflicto, no antagonizando ni enalteciendo a ningún personaje, todos tienen un POV de su historia, que vista desde una perspectiva en la que únicamente viéramos su propio desarrollo podríamos pensar que este personaje es el verdadero protagonista de la cinta. Lo cual la vuelve interesante en crear esta creciente duda de quien realmente está en lo correcto. Todos son atacados de alguna forma por los que ven este caso desde el exterior, por ser "terrorista" por ser la "defensora de terroristas" o por ser un "Traidor". Teniendo cómo Critica/mensaje el quitar etiquetas de si tal persona es mala por lo que pensamos que hizo o por lo que piensa, o por el cómo se ve, en el que tal vez estamos viviendo en una constante manipulación para pensar en la idea "políticamente correcta", aunque no hayamos oído el %100 de la nota. Criticando la falta de información a las que solo un pequeño grupo de personas tienen acceso, y aun así a ellos mismos se les restringen información para manipular y moldear su confianza y creer que siempre están haciendo lo "correcto". La fotografía de Alwin H. Kütcher es lo mejor de la película, la vuelve dinámica con planos que ayudan a crear tensión en la trama como con primerísimos primeros planos con el personaje de Mohamedou para resaltar su estado anímico de encierro tanto metafórico cómo físicamente. Hay secuencias muy bien logradas en las cuáles la película se vuelve agradable de ver, ayudando con el dinamismo de la narrativa; que con un diseño de producción impecable la película se eleva a otro nivel. The Mauritanian visibiliza el cómo no todos tienen los mismos derechos y el cómo la mayoría de nosotros nos dejamos influir por los prejuicios que tenemos arraigados, en el que se explora lo difícil que puede ser buscar justicia a alguien que estaba condenado desde el día que nació.
