The Mustang Reviews
The Mustang is a quietly moving drama that follows Roman, a violent inmate who forms an unlikely bond with a wild mustang as part of a rehabilitation program. Matthias Schoenaerts delivers a compelling performance, portraying a man struggling with his past while learning about trust and redemption through his relationship with the horse. The film’s minimalist approach and stunning cinematography evoke deep emotions, creating a powerful story about healing, second chances, and personal growth. While it moves at a slow pace, its heartfelt narrative and raw performances make it a rewarding watch.
This was the movie I was introduced to Matthias as an actor. An assumed simple role turned into a powerful explosion of skill by this guy. The movie itself was absolutely fantastic. I like the medium pace of the movie. I like the writing and I like all the acting. Bruce dern is simply an old grouch and was an amazing character in this movie. Definitely worth a watch. I only got to experience and enjoy it just last year.
One of the best films I've ever watched. Matthias Schoenaerts and Bruce Durn are spectacularly authentic. The viewer is sucked into both the situation and the predicaments of the players. Just wonderful.
I thought this was a great story although it was a little dark and gruesome at times with the setting in a prison, however, we see the bright side in trying to rehabilitate these inmates using wild mustangs that need taming themselves.
(Mauro Lanari) Not wanting to shoot a remake of "The Horse Whisperer" (1998), this time Redford limits himself to producing a succinct clone of it but with the same power in the result by having it directed by a debutant.
Well made and enjoyable movie about how awesome animals are. Animals are awesome. Except the poisonous ones, they're not awesome.
This film is a visually beautiful and riveting story pivoting around the cathartic connection between troubled man and wild horse, and the ripple effect from that. I was completely emotionally invested.
Terrific. Acting, cinematography, story all good.
Fluffy dross, cliche after cliche, unrealistic and predictable... how on earth this film got such fab reviews is a mystery to me... a bad Disney with a handful of grit thrown in. Acting decent though...
A decent flick. A reasonably well-told story.
Different but straight forward, strong, emotional and symbolic story about a convict getting the chance to find his own freedom of mind through a wild horse. Brilliantly executed, and great acting by both human and animal.
Incredibly powerful story of forgiveness, growth, redemption, and finding joy and purpose after tragedy. Amazing performances by all!
The Mustang artfully reveals its road to redemption with authentic performances, setting and production. Honorable mention to Bruce Dern for his masterclass on playing the thick skinned mentor with a heart of gold. See also: Shawshank Redemption, Rust and Bone
