so so slowwww. had some beauty in it, ethereal and mysterious but each scene just went wayyy too long. trying to be artsy but just got dull and then feeble attempts to be shocking with nonsensical and meaningless scenes

Very little plot but some cool visuals during overly drawn out scenes. Cameos from big actors playing against type are completely wasted as the characters aren't really used well. Don't waste your time.

Brilliant opening of the film, the musical score gives you a Hypnotic feel, one that carries out trough out the film, this to me is an expose of the model industry and Hollywood, the depts of its true nature and it is ugly empty soul per say, reminds me of the substance in a way.. and yes none of the characters are likeable but this films is not looking for that. bit of a horror movie at times.. the photographer in the movie embodies the industry, emotionless, cold and apathetic.. Jessy is the sacrificial innocent lamb who ultimately surrenders to the nature of the beast as much as the other models have done so already.

Sweet lord! I want that hour and 58 minutes of my life back. This was nonsensical - and not in a good way. How in the heck did they convince Keanu and other notable names to sign up for this?? There is just no throughline at all with the plot, the characters' motivations, an underlying evil, a stated philosophy... NONE of it makes sense. Anyone who is calling this "Art" probably believes the emperor's clothes look great on him.

It's pretty, but it simultaneously tries to say too much while not saying enough. I'm not a dialogue dependent audience member, but at times this movie felt up it's own butt too much with long silent dragging scenes obviously trying to say something deep and meaningful but not managing to do so.

O filme tem todo um diferencial devido a escolha da direção em tratar um tema que já foi falado em outros filmes, mas usando uma linguagem figurativa. Temos um belo trabalho de fotografia, iluminação, maquiagem e figurino. Não poderia ser diferente em se tratando do tema sobre moda e beleza visual. Quanto ao roteiro, mesmo citando questões importantes, não deixa de ser uma trama superficial. Todos os personagens são maniqueístas, e até mesmo a personagem principal não tem profundidade, o que nos faz não se importar com seu destino. Talvez isso não torne o filme com nota máxima.

As others have accurately pointed out - it looks nice and has a cool electronic soundtrack, but that's it. The rest is negative. 'Slow', 'boring', 'pointless', 'laughable', 'repulsive', and 'cynical' are all appropriate descriptors for the various elements of this film. I'll also add, the movie contains both necrophilia and cannibalism, so heads up. There are also basically no likeable characters in this movie, it's over long in terms of runtime, and in each individual scene everything takes frustratingly long to happen even for a slow burn. Lastly, the message of the movie is such low hanging fruit that no one needs a reminder.

The most beautiful bad movie I have ever watched. Beautiful visuals, music that reminds me of Blade Runner, but lacking in everything else. The characters are neither relatable nor likeable, the story seems disjointed and slow. When it finally does pick up speed, it doesn't manage to get its point across. The final minutes of this film are shocking in both their imagery and lack of substance.

Cel mai prost film ever

Beautiful visuals. Great camera work. I enjoyed the gory ending. However, the concept is wacky, it was just trying to be shocking.

I've never been so uncomfortable watching a movie, I loved it!

This is what it looks like when someone is trying to be "artistic" without having any substance. This slow film is all style with no real point of view and no characters worth pulling for or even being interested in. Outside of Keanu Reeves, the acting is mid at its best movies. It's clear why they lost money on this poor attempt to be different.

Incredible film with great performances all around

Mesmerizing, hypnotic, disturbing and beautiful. It won't be for everyone, but I loved it. This thing has cult classic written all over it. Something tells me it's going to age well.

An art house film that is not as shocking, provocative, or exciting as it wants to be. The Neon Demon is clearly a matter of style over substance. The whole "Hollywood eats its own. One day you are on top of the world, the next day you are old hat" message is nothing new. It is a message found in many other films about the entertainment industry, and many of those films, from a classic like Sunset Boulevard to the ultimate camp classic Showgirls, are far more interesting than this film. If Showgirls is a Porsche driving recklessly on the highway at top speed, The Neon Demon is the golf cart puttering along. The characters are not that interesting. The story is not that compelling, and there is a lot of dead time in this picture. I was hoping that Elle Fanning's character would reveal an interesting plot twist about herself in the end. Nope. What we get is a jump the shark twist that is supposed to be shocking but falls flat because there is absolutely no buildup to it. I was hoping for a film that would have elements of Carrie or Suspiria, but what we got was such a letdown. The one thing-other than the beautiful visuals-that makes this film almost worth watching is the always fearless Jena Malone. She has such a magnetic presence. It is kind of gross and dated that she plays the predatory queer character, but she did the best with the material she was given.

I genuinely believe if you think this movie is so poor, you just didn't have the capability of thinking deeply about it. Get out of your head and go back in deeper. This movie is as visually stunning as the message it's weaving.
