The Northman Reviews
Directing, acting, and script: all superb!
Overrated. The dialogue and cinematography was dull. It made Europeans seem like savages. And it was too long.
Amazing movie! Definitely worth a watch!
MASTERPIECE!! Honestly can't believe that there are people that don't like it . It's in a way oldschool filmmaking .
It's brutal, it's epic, it's cinematic, it's truly a blockbuster.
10/10 absolutely awesome movie, perfect amount of pace while still remaining interesting for me, loved it, will continue to watch over!
Absolute drivel. Wooden acting, thin storyline. Generally crap.
Not faithful to history. Lots of debunked things in the movie. If you are looking something like that keep looking, tha pace its bad, acting (main character) its deplorable, the action aside from the seconds in the trailers its cringe and bad. The story its ok I suposse, the ost and Anya are the only good parts of this movie. Give me back my time.
Such a strange movie.
The Lion King + Revenge of the Sith + vikings Eggers takes Hamlet all the way back to 9th century vikingdom for a dark and gritty tale. Every scene exudes authenticity. It is abundantly clear that this type of story is his specialty. You can feel the mud, the grit, the blood, the dirt, the cold wind on your face. Between the deep, brooding score and the PRIME production design, you're transported to Iceland... only to realize after a bare skinned sword flight on an exploding volcano, that you've only been sitting on the couch this whole time. While this is a retelling of Hamlet (... his name is literally Amleth...), it holds up strong. The timeless tale of vengeance will never stop being told... Shakespeare was really on to something there... You sort of don't realize it until the end that the story reminds you of a particular lion, or a pair of friends turned brothers turned enemies with lightsabers... were just missing friends who eat bugs or a couple of droids who sees everything unfold from a distance. There is no comedic relief here, and none is needed. It's grit and gravel all the way through. The Northman works simultaneously to tell the story and also explore the concept and power of belief. The native pagan religion is portrayed through Amleth's perspective, and he believes that he truly does become a wolf in battle, or that vengeance is part of his destiny. He is unwavering in his belief and it sets this sort of, dark fairytale tone to the story. We start vicariously believing it through him too.
The film is pompous, drary and lacks credibility. The list of participating celebs is quite long, but their performance is mostly irrelevant or weak. Better spend your time on other things.
It's not a time-period war movie. The action is minimal and very low quality. It is filled with visions and moments of supernatural intervention. Boring and anticlimactic. If you are looking for ancient warfare, this is not the movie for you.
Liked this much more the second time around, when you first watch it and expect a Viking bloodbath like the 온라인카지노추천 show you will be let down, when you know the main point of the film is revenge and watch it without the expectation of a ton of bloody battles you see it for what it is. Wonderfully shot Viking Epic. Loved it, it felt realistic and primal.
Visually spectacular, brutal & superbly written, Robert Eggers' The Northman is the quintessential Viking epic.
My praises to Bob Eggers for creating a dark and artistic masterpiece that contributed to Norse mythological film. Alexander Skarsgaard's physicality along with his dedication to the role of a savage Viking warrior. If Eggers decided to do a Conan film, I would have full faith in it's adaption.
As usual, the critic got it wrong and audience got it right. I was expecting more. Usually if I like a movie I’ll watching it again somewhere down the line. It was ok but isn’t one I’ll ever watch again.
A great movie by director Robert Eggars. I loved this movie from its premise of being a revenge story to the gore of the kills. The movie gave me many vibes to the movie Gladiator with its plot being fairly similar. This movie however had lots more guts and blood and also had some hints of fantasy with all the gods and things in it. Anya Taylor Joy is as wonderful as ever and I am glad to see her in another Robert Eggars movie as his movie The VVitch was her first one. I loved this and I love Robert Eggars as he is a wonderful director.
Visuals 5 stars, story 2 Stars. And yes, the story is more important. FIRST, there is no character development--yes he has a goal, but over the course of the story he doesn't learn anything or change as a person, and in the end chooses a selfish act of revenge over love. SECOND, the "romance" is the most unromantic garbage I've ever seen. They meet, and with almost no interaction they hook up. Wow. THIRD, no consequences. Before they hooked up, he literally took part in the murder and enslavement of his lover's village. He never admits to her that he was part of that raid and that should have been brought up 100%. FOURTH, he has only about 10,000 opportunities to take his revenge on the guy who killed his father, but decides to kill almost every innocent person first, including his mother and brothers. Yes, his mom was lame, but did she deserve death? No. FIFTH, he's a hipocrite! His entire goal is based on taking revenge on someone who killed his father and stole his mother, yet right away we see him with a band of bezerkers slaughtering innocent people and talking them as slaves. SIXTH, why are we glorifying murders in the first place? Pirates? Vikings? These are the bad guys, in case you didn't know.
This movie is absolutely terrible. The plot, the script, the acting, and the overall production are just so bad. With the big actors it has I had hopes that this would be good, but honestly there was nothing good about it
Bloody and intense, a Viking epic done by right by Robert Eggers!
