The Oath Reviews
The first hour or so is really entertaining and the satire is pretty on point. Unfortunately, it falls apart in the third act as it goes in a wildly different direction. I thought the last hour was also good in a dark comedy way, but it felt like a different movie from what they started with. It wasn't bad. It was just uneven.
interesting script that is relevant because of the divisive times we're living in...not much of a budget, basic set design, uninspired cinematography, and some of the acting was downright awful BUT it had some wonderful "truths"
On the one hand I admire Barinholtz for trying to grapple with the deep seated rage and resentment festering in the heart of America, but he doesn't appear to have figured out how to coherently address it here. The movie is all over the place and the ending offers a resolution that is too simplistic.
Other than the music, this film was the worst I've seen in several years. I will never get that time back. Oh how I wish I had done anything else besides take the time to see this movie in the theater. No plot, no acting, nonsense. It now replaces my least favorite movie, Joe Dirt.
Terrible! It doesn't deserve a one rating. Nothing at all like the real Moroni. Honestly I don't understand how someone can make such a terrible film about a character who has such a magnificent story. Had to be about making money off of some dedicated people who would go without questions . My wife and I walked out 40 minutes into the movie. Others followed. In fact the theater mgr was outside the door handing out free ticket passes for reimbursement. Never had that before!
I've watched this movie several times. It gives you awareness in every aspect of life. You'll never get tired watching all over again. I invite everyone to watch the movie to find out the beauty of it.
A masterpiece. Anyone who doesn't like it doesn't get its meaning.
The Oath isn't funny at all - but it does pick at the scab of political tribalism in America pretty well. The language is so bad that it's ineffective. Could've done more work on what was dividing americans than having a general 'oath' that people were signing.
Mediocre satire about current familial political tensions that isn't funny enough or daring enough. The characters are generally unlikeable, and the ending is too safe and tidy.
Very good flick especially during the times we live in. Great acting and some of the best dark humor I have seen in a while. Definitely find the time to watch this movie.
Fun film. Definitely has a lot of elements I don't like at all though. The like the random characters and the stupid twist
The movie Is mirroring society and our inability To conversate without provacating. Those who don't like this movie might miss that point. It's over the top and a bit stressful to watch but I could see how our current politics in America Where tolerance for difference in opinion has taken a backseat to division, and ego. It is as if you took an angry facebook post where people are fighting and made a movie based on it.
Leftist propaganda, typical projection. Pretty hilarious foreshadowing to their horrible actions in 2020
With The Purge's vibe looming throughout, The Oath turns out to be just a dark comedy with more untapped potential to explore. Can't say I'm disappointed!
Ignorant . Unfunny and had no plot. What little storyline was there makes no sense and hard to believe someone funded this production
“This is a OK movie to watch while quarantining. Not as bad as critics say...It is corny with funny moments.”
