The Old Oak Reviews
A childlike film about immigration, bag of shite, sorry Ken
Some films make you laugh, some entertain you, some warm your heart. Sometimes a film can change your viewpoint Superb stuff.
Beautiful Film. Thank you forever Ken Loach. You're one of a kind. So appreciated.
This movie is a call for solidarity in front of contemporaries' issues. We are all humans and there are no borders, no languages, or skin color who can break the brotherhood and that’s exactly the message of this movie. It will not be the most entertaining and fascinating movie you will see but that doesn't make it less emotional.
If you had the idea to watch this movie you need to know some things about it. It was directed by Ken Loach in 2023. If you are here, it is because you planned to watch it, and it is not long, so that is great! For my point of view, it is a good movie that denounce in unusual way the war in Syria and how the immigrants were welcomed in the village of Easington Colliery in the county of Durkam. I loved how they showed the reality of life and that we do not live in a pink world because not every citizen wanted to help the refugees. In my point of view at the end of the movie it shows that we can live together and stick together because we are all human and that for a human being, we all want people to be happy even if we do not love them because of their difference and their stories as you would see on the film. I loved how the director made the point of view of all the characters and made the story of the movie even harder because of all their stories. For me it was not boring because of all the interesting stories of everyone and how they loved it. If I had to name my favorite character, I would say Tommy Joe the owner of the pub because he is the definition of the men that we fought had no story but instead he was dealing with so many problems that we could not suspect. It made me realize that the movie shows how difficult leaving your country is but also how brave some people who are sometime poorer than the rest but are the first who are trying to help others, and that is what I loved in that movie.
‘The Old Oak’ is an interesting movie because it talks about actual topics which everyone is going through today, in our society. We can meet a lot of different profiles and situations in the story which viewers can identify with. The places where the movie was filmed are common places which make story accessible to all. It shares a beautiful message about solidarity and hope. It proves also that the difference of culture or language isn’t a barrier to friendship or solidarity. We can all help others in one way or another. However, I think that the end of the movie doesn’t answer all the questions we can ask ourselves and some scenes don’t have a real interest in the plot.
My first impression of The Old Oak is that it sensitively explores fear and compassion in a struggling community, showing the power of connection and solidarity. I liked this movie but I was a little bit bored at first and the movie is a little bit long. Also, I liked the hero TJ. He is caring and strong as he deals with his community, his desire to help the refugees makes him an inspiring character. And I like Yara because she manages to fit in a new community. I felt a lot of emotions due to the way the story was told and also beacuase of the pictures, the colours and with the emotional music. FInally, this movie is a great film which gives us a message of solidarity and hope.
Personally, I am kind of neutral about the movie, it is just not my style, but I won't lie, the main subject is why you will watch it because it is a kind of movie that could be "Based on a true story". Not only the story but the entire situation about social issues, gap between inhabitants and newcomers. With the characters in it, you can easily recognize yourself as one of those based on what would be your reaction if it happened to you and how you would evolve in this situation. I recommand this movie for people who need to know what integration truly means and see how they should act and react about it. It questions the relationships among the local community and between two communities. Also this movie is an opportunity to discover the local beauties regarding architecture and landscapes.
“The Old Oak” is a movie realised by Ken Loach, released the 26 of May at Cannes festival and considered as a social drama. The story is about a group of Syrian refugees arriving in the village of Easington, in the north-east of England, they came there to escape the war, but they are not well welcomed by the locals. We will follow the point of view of Yara, a young woman coming from Syria who love photography, but also TJ’s one, The Old Oak’s owner. For me it was an interesting movie who shows us that it’s possible for two different communities to mix when they want and tried to. I liked it because the story was well developed with good plot twist but not too much. The hero was also touching with their stories that we now more during the movie. But some of secondary characters were revolting because of their actions and remarks. To conclude, it’s a good movie who need to be seen but not an extraordinary movie that we will remember all our life.
The Old Oak is a social drama movie by Ken Loach, this not my style of movie but it wasn't bad because this story gives us an idea of what is integration in an other country when you're immigrate . In my opinion , the movie is a little bit long . My favorite scene is when Tj balentine discover who sabotage the water system of the kitchen and act like a great man . To be honest it's not bad but not my favorite .
Hello everybody! I saw the last movie of Ken Loach last week “The Old Oak”. This movie deals with immigration and social issues that are very actual topics in our society. I liked how the story was told and how the characters were developed especially TJ Ballentyne, one of the heroes of the movie. This movie was like a mirror of reality: indeed, the places where the movie was filmed, and the choice of the music fitted perfectly with the atmosphere of the story. I would just think of one criticism about the movie, the actions in the movie were a little bit too slow sometimes for me and it was hard to stay focused and concentrated. I appreciate the message of hope and solidarity at the end of the movie despite some sad moments. That gives us a good life lesson and a touch of hope.
A new era, it’s exactly what represents this movie. The movie deals with humanity and it’s what I have really appreciated. It gives simply the definition of being able to live together which is sometimes not easy for everybody. Indeed, in this movie, stereotypes complicate the possible relationship between different communities.
Hi everyone, last week I saw the dramatic comedy The Old Oak directed by Ken Loach. It lasted about 2 hours, a perfect length for me, I was not bored at all. It tells the truthful story of Syrian refugees settling in a little minor England town where there is a lot of social misery. Every character even the “mean” ones touched me by their story. I also loved the use of photography and music which makes an emotional link between refugees and the inhabitants. ‘Helping the others’ is the motto of this movie and I really appreciated it. I also rediscovered thanks to this movie the minor strikes due to Thatcher’s politics and the Bashar Al Assad regime and its consequences.
The theme of the movie is not bad at all, it's important to show people different ways of life, but it could have been better directed. I sometimes thought there were strange, unuseful and boring scenes. I sometimes wondered what the purpose of different scenes was. But the topic is really interesting but with better actors it could have been a very touching movie. We need for films whith those themes to educate people on wars and war refuges.
The Old Oak is a movie by Ken Loach released in 2023, it deals with immigration in the UK. The film takes place in a small town near the sea in England. It shows families of Syrians refugees arriving in Easington. The director shows people struggling on both sides. I really liked this movie because it points out people helping each other through hard times. It holds a message of hope and brotherhood. So if you like movies in which people support each other then it is for you !
You may, or may not know the movie, THE OLD OAK, but i figured that since you are here, it interests you. I am here to share with you my experience watching this movie. But first of all, this movie was directed by Ken Loach, was written by Paul Laverty and was released in January 2023.It is a social drama that lasts 1h50. It talks about the story of Syrian refugees arriving at a small town in north England. We can see throughout the entire movie how do the inhabitants reacted to the news. I really enjoyed watching this movie. I felt a lot of emotions throughout the entire 1h50 and sometimes it was really heartbreaking. But i am not gonna lie there was some moments that seemed long and i kinda got bored at the middle of the movie. But it faded up at some point and it got interesting again. I liked the hero because he seemed very sweet and i liked his character development. But i was kinda disappointed to not see more of the bad people's point of view, i think we didn't see enough of the reason why they act the way they do. The movie is well realized, i really appreciated the colors and the lights used in the movie, it makes us feel like we are in the movie with them, we kinda share their emotions. To be honest i suggest you to watch the movie, everybody can have their own impressions of it and i think it can a hundred percent be mind changing for some people.
I didn’t like the movie a lot, it’s a good movie, it’s interesting and emotional moreover it shows the difficulties to integrate a village when you don’t have the same culture and to welcome migrant in a village who is dead at some points. That's why I liked the movie, but it was quite long and sometimes hard to understand, there were a lot of scenes who were not useful and just added time for nothing, it makes the movie boring at some time. I also didn’t like it because the vocabulary is very familiar with many bad words. In the end, it’s a good movie but too long for me.
The context of the movie promised an extraordinary emotional movie, instead the only really emotional twits that we had was because of an animal. I feel like the movie had potencial but it was not use to make the viewer feel inside the story, inside the context, inside the old oak. I understand that its not easy at all making and directing a movie but they did not make us feel anything. While I was watching it, I felt like if it was my obligation to wacht it. The transitions, the cinematographic shots were not exploited at all, instead of watching a movie from an experimented director like Ken Loach I felt like I was watching the first movie of a just graduated cinema student. To end with the review I am going to talk about characters, some of them are amazing but most of them do not have personality, their only propose is to get abused and them forget about all to get the good ending. Empty characters.
Just, really, watch. It's beautiful, sad, warm... Necessary.
