The Possession Reviews
Aside from typical ghost possession cliches, the story isn't bad, tries to do something new with the Jewish-belief based ghost (at least I'm not aware of other horror movies using these types), and jump scares are okay, not great, but there is just a lot of unnecessary perks of certain characters that doesn't do anything for the story or anything at all, but rather makes them more annoying than likeable.
I think it’s quite good! Well acted and good story! A few good scares! X
Annoying characters, a story you've seen a million times, and I can't think of a third thing to even mention. This movie is a forgettable try at The Exorcist but vaguely Jewish. The dybbuk box story that The Possession is based on was always just a piece of creative writing, done by a guy who's too arrogant to understand that eBay isn't the place for creative writing. There are countless better possession movies with the same basic premise. Go watch one of those instead.
So this is a pretty standard possession/exorcism movie with only minor deviations from the formula, mostly that this is a Jewish exorcism rather than a Christian one but that doesn't really make any real difference to the experience. This is a very well made film, every aspect is done to the highest quality so I can only really critique the creative aspects. The main critique? I have seen this film so many times. It is very unoriginal with nothing that stands out about it. The audio cutting out on climax scenes is annoying, thankfully it was only in the first half of the film. If this was the only possession movie then it would score much higher. Admittedly this is the only possession film I can think of where you actually see the demon ‘in the flesh’. It’s enjoyable and fun, just forgettable.

I enjoyed it! Cast was great, little girl did a great job. I always enjoy the possession subgenre so maybe I'm an easy audience, but I really enjoyed this. It was entertaining!
they killed off tzadook and he is legit the best character in it legit only watched the movie cuz of him
Crazy movie but overall I really like it because I love horror movies and I have never seen this before
It lack creativity, and originality, plus the ending sucks.
An absolute gem. The acting, script, score, and exorcism are perfect. The only complaint is the slow beginning, but is well made up for by the third act. GREAT
It was okay but a little over the top with dynamics. But definitely worth a watch if you like paranormal flicks
Every other horror movie ever. Not terrible but not that spectacular. (Which is the problem)
Common horror trope.
Despite many poor reviews here, I actually loved this movie! The fact that Jeffery Dean Morgan stars in this hidden gem, in and of itself, makes it worth watching. BUT... can we talk about Natasha Calis for moment here?! 😍 Calis played the young (and possessed 😬) Emily aka Em, and she was Fantastic! 😍 You could see that the 'evil spirit' was within her and taking over but, in her eyes, you could also see the young, scared Em. I would totally recommend this movie 🍿 This is one I will gladly watch many times over 🤗
It's made well but as for the story goes, well... we've been there and done that many times before.
Decent actors and possible story line. Nothing real great, but not terrible.
It was Brillent horror film wasn't expecting the ending bit but yes scary but good film to watch tho is there a second 1 enybody love jeffery dean morgan film his been in a few horror films plus supernatural as well
This looks like it will be the usual dime a dozen possession movies and in some ways it does follow familiar tropes. What I enjoyed about this is the acting was believable from Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick as divorced parents of two girls, one of which begins acting strangely after buying a mysterious wooden box at a yard sale. Well acted and the story of the box was different and intriguing. A little above average and worth a watch.
There are some fun new ideas with this one and I appreciate the Jewish angle. Didn't like the end.
