The Princess Reviews
Kiet has crafted a violent yet strangely wholesome anomaly: a mindless but enjoyably junky East-meets-West hodgepodge that stokes our bloodlust while staying true to its storybook setting.

The Princess is a tongue-in-cheek, balls-to-the-walls, action extravaganza.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Jul 20, 2023
It’s a story somewhat at the mercy of its budget, but one that celebrates sisterhood, ambition and centuries of fairy tales about women finding a way to escape their perils.

Disney Princess meets Kill Bill in the style of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. This fractured fairy tale follows a badass young royal who rejects her husband, escapes from a tower, rescues her family, reclaims her kingdom, and generally wreaks havoc.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Nov 28, 2022
A series of action set pieces loosely held together by a self-aware fantasy story, The Princess doesn't reach the full heights of its premise, though it still proves to have plenty of fun along the way.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Sep 23, 2022
With its light-hearted entertainment, the story of 'The Princess' depicts what a strong woman is capable of and exhorts viewers to "believe in themselves." This refreshing take on a fairy tale world is definitely fun to watch.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 19, 2022
There’s nothing much to think about, here; sit back and watch the fights. Not a bad way to pass the time.
| Original Score: 6/10 | Aug 18, 2022
The Princess thrives when the action sequences are happening, which luckily there are a plethora to support the 90-minute run-time. The characters are poorly defined, simply crafted, with dialog that is cringey and uninspiring.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 17, 2022
The Princess is a fun ride pairing its simple tale of female empowerment with some impressive and exciting action beats.

While its blood-splattered, patriarchy-pounding energy carries “The Princess” for a while, its barebones story eventually runs out of gas. So it ends up hinging on the combat which ranges from occasionally electric to flat-out goofy.
| Original Score: 2/5 | Aug 16, 2022
Joey King and Veronica Ngo swing a sword and execute stunts with the best of them, but it doesn't negate the heavy on action small on narrative mess this film ultimately succumbs to within 90 minutes

There’s an X-factor at work here that will likely elevate “The Princess” in the minds of many viewers, and it has everything to do with timing.
| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Aug 2, 2022
Its plot is a little thin, there’s little in its runtime that isn’t action, but if it’s an action-heavy trope remixer you’re looking for (and it should be) this is exactly the film you need. It’s a grand time.

This is a crowd-pleasing good time that should absolutely make it onto your weekend watch list ...
| Original Score: 8/10 | Jul 25, 2022
The Princess is a bloody, action-packed adventure, that while entertaining, lacks the depth it had originally promised its viewers.

King is a blast, with the fierce intensity of French actress Sara Forestier, whom she strongly resembles. And this movie is worthy of King’s exertions.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jul 18, 2022
King keeps coming back for more in this mix of a medieval tale with martial arts action. More entertaining than expected, Joey King shows fierce determination playing this damsel is in distress who knows how to kick ass.

It’s great to see a woman hero who doesn’t need some retro reason for her heroism.
| Original Score: B | Jul 10, 2022
Kiet is trying to make a pure action film here, and he absolutely succeeds. Any disappointment from the audience’s part is simply a case of inaccurate expectations.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Jul 10, 2022
The Princess offers a taunt bloodbath for fans of old-school actioners.
