an intimate, present-tense journey through the life and career of a man who is still trying to figure himself out.

[Bill] Wyman's refusal to acknowledge the scandalous mess resulting from his relationship with Mandy Smith is not the only example of how Wyman may not be the most reliable narrator of his life story that he tells in this movie.

The Quiet One isn't a bad documentary on Bill Wyman, the bassists for The Rolling Stones from 1962 to 1993, or a bad documentary in general. It just suffers from arriving too late to the party to add much to a well-worn story.

He's too murmurously quiet and utterly unforthcoming to make a great cinema subject, but his life of sex and rock 'n' roll (no drugs for him) is quite a trip, and you may find some surprises...

Once the quiet one, always the quiet one.
| Original Score: B+ | Jul 5, 2019
More crucial than even concert recordings is footage of Wyman silently at work...preserving artifacts for the generations who will want to learn all about what his friends accomplished.

"One" isn't out for blood, electing to care for Wyman's legacy, receiving an enviable opportunity to pore through the musician's treasures.
| Original Score: B+ | Jul 4, 2019
Unfortunately, it might have made for a better movie if its subject had opened up something more than just his attic.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jul 2, 2019
The Quiet One is a modest film about a modest man and benefits enormously from Mr. Wyman's apparent obsessive-compulsive drive to collect, record and photograph.

Even with its deficiencies -- length and occasional repetition -- The Quiet One probably qualifies as a must-see for Stones' fans and, perhaps, a less-compelling offering for casual enthusiasts.

Play simple, sure. But "The Quiet One" could have used a lot more complexity.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Jun 27, 2019
The hubbub of his Stones years now long in the past, Wyman looks back and remembers, quietly.
| Original Score: 3/4 | Jun 25, 2019
While watching "The Quiet One," you get the feeling Wyman has seen it all from the perspective of both a participant and an observer. And he has the photos and home movies to prove it.
| Original Score: B | Jun 22, 2019
There are some cool anecdotes along the way, but not as much substance as you might hope.

I enjoyed finding out more about Wyman and The Rolling Stones. They are legends for a reason.
| Original Score: 7/10 | Jun 21, 2019
An intimate portrait, almost a self-portrait of the Rolling Stone, the working-class kid from South London, you did not know.
| Original Score: A- | Jun 21, 2019
The Quiet One is Wyman's journey, and because of that the documentary is intimate and personal, but by the same token it is also highly selective in what it shows and acknowledges.
| Original Score: 2/4 | Jun 21, 2019
A well-edited, solid introduction to Bill Wyman, but not very profound or moving.
| Original Score: 7.9/10 | Jun 21, 2019
[A] frustratingly timid documentary.

"The Quiet One," director Oliver Murray's nostalgic documentary... enjoyably lives up to its unassuming title.
