The Rental Reviews
I don,t think it a horror movie, it start very slow at the beginning. It all about relationship problem between those four people. Director not given more information about the villian why he kill, monitor people.
Very smart movie. It starts slow, but suddenly every step and decision takes it to another complex and tense situation. Loved the scenarios and music. The plot and characters are not the best, but considering the budget, this is a really smart and interesting story.
THANK YOU "horror" movie for avoiding all the tedious tropes... the endless sneaking, creaking, supposed suspense of drawn-out cliches -- NO HIDING CULPRITS LURKING WITH TIME-BOMB MUSIC AS POTENTIAL VICTIMS GO BLITHELY ABOUT THEIR BUSINESS! NO HIDE-AND-SLASH IN WEIRD INDUSTRIAL AND OTHER ABANDONED SETTINGS! NO CHASE SCENES! The killer bluntly dispatches the characters without toying with the audience... the only toying is that you're trying to make sense of the plot (the owner? one of the jilted ex-girlfriends?) but it's just some crazy outlier who moves on to the next rental -- and you never see his face. RENTING? YOU COULD BE NEXT. Very refreshing!
This is a nice, simple, little horror film about a group of friends who rent a beach house for a couple of days and end up misbehaving, fighting, and wondering if the caretaker of the house they’re staying at is filming them. The plot here is very clever, and the suspense and mysteries deepen at a nice pace. This is a really of-the-moment thriller and the interplay between the secrets and lies of the group and the potential outside threat creates some really exciting and novel cinematic situations. This is a fresh horror movie about renting houses from strangers that will make you think twice about your next weekend getaway.
The movie was engaging but predictable. The ending was intriguing, showing what was happening, but it was frustrating not to see who was committing the murders. A missed opportunity for a stronger finish.
Stupid, unresolved ending! Who put up money for this!
Loved it. This movie does a great job in building believable characters with an almost too real premise. There's some work at subverting expectations and the pacing felt perfect. If you only like Jason movies because you only want to see supernatural kills instead of realism, this isn't for you. Not every horror needs gratuitous gore to be creepy.
HORRIBLE MOVIE. Wasted an hour and 28 minutes of my life that I will never get back, absolutely no climax, or plot, or any thrills. Very boring, the movie started the last 5 minutes, save your time.
A very imaginable, well-acted and otherwise horrifying movie showcasing the possible dangers that one could put themselves into if they rent out a property for the weekend. The ending is unexpected, and the climax definitely grabbed my attention compared to the long, drawn out beginning. Although my main problems are the characters themselves, in which I could not force myself to root for.
Makes you feel scared of absolutely everything you do. And makes you never want to rent anywhere.
Well-acted, unimaginative, and boring.
The characters are weak and unlikeable. You are left really not caring if anything bad happens to any of them. And the strained effort to weave some “racism” theme is gratuitous.
I've never seen a movie quite like this in the BEST way possible! The characters are well written and feel like real people. The acting is amazing. This gave me genuine fear because this plot could and DOES happen in real life. This movie left an awesome impression on me!! It's safe to say that I will 100% be looking thoroughly everywhere I rent/book.
Movie has few good jump scares, but needed more depth in the story. It’s a one time watch at best. You won’t loose much if you skip this.
I found all the characters extremely unlikeable and their dialogue completely uninteresting. The writing and the feel of the “world” scream San Francisco in all the ways people hate San Francisco. The lines written to get laughs or even smiles made me angry at the writers. The action is boring and predictable. About the only thing we didn’t guess correctly after 10 minutes was what the dog’s fate would be. The only redeeming qualities here is that your pain will be short 90 minutes or so) and the final 30 seconds are at least interesting. Rent something different.
The movie was well shot, and had decent acting in it. It was the writing and dialogue that didn't work for me. The main characters had me wishing for their demise before half way through the movie and the "racial conflict" was entirely pointless, distracting from any sense of horror that might have otherwise been better developed.
An unexpected, superb thriller.
Appears to be a cliche movie - 2 couples rent a remote house. This is not a cliche movie. I found it unpredictable. I got mad at the characters but was surprised by the ending. I recommend it.
Didn't know anything about this film before I watched it on Netflix, but it was fairly predictable and cliche. The characters were mostly unlikeable and not all that interesting. No explanation of anything was given, nothing was felt and nothing will be remembered after I write this review. This was fairly low-quality entertainment.
The Rental presents a small ensemble cast that withers through the mysteries and eventual torture of renting a stranger's home for a getaway. The film presents enough of a background for each of its characters to keep things moving forward as ominous acts fall upon them one by one. Fans of Community and Shameless will be happy to see their stars in a story that not only illuminates them in a different light, but reveals what may go through any house renters mind - am I safe here?
