The Rite Reviews
When I heard about The Rite, I was hoping Anthony Hopkins was reprising his Hannibal Lecter role as a priest who does exorcisms while hiding from Agent Starling. I was close. It's not my kind of film, though. I never cared for The Exorcist or The Omen. The Howling, on the other hand, is a banger.
Great film, and great choice of actors - doesn't go over the top with gimmicky silliness, like chunky vomit. Has moments that could of thrown off the movie story, and glad it didn't.
It's an excellent motion picture, The Rite, 2011...I like this Genre of film and I am a Catholic...
We love Anthony Hopkins but The Rite fails to keep audiences invested thanks to sluggish pacing & bad writing.
Eu gostei... Filme bem feito e com uma boa atuação de Anthony Hopkins
Although Colin O'Donoghue's performance is so-so, it is *the* Sir Anthony Hopkins who pulls this off. Aside from the actors, the plot was great. It was gripping especially in the film's second half, in which Hopkins's acting shined the brightest. Did it break new ground in the exorcism genre? Perhaps no. But is it a decent watch? Certainly.
The best of this movie is that it's based on real facts.
Was a bit boring at first. Acting, in my amateur opinion, actually quite good. It seemed underwhelming at first; it's not your typical horror, but that's what made it good. No jump scares, no crazy effects, no scary faces of haunting demons. It was realistic. Michael was a good character - logical, sceptical and smart. His character was relatable as it asked questions most films don't. Most movies show scared families in a haunted house, but this was a different approach, it was academic and realistic, showing the reality (well, close reality) of what it would be for the priest to handle the situation. I get why people didn't like it. It's not as thrilling as The Conjuring or The Exorcist, but it's very eerie, which is the charming effect. It's not ridiculously exaggerated, it's realistic as I keep saying. This is something you could imagine happening in real life, which is what causes the chills. Not all horrors have to be demons jumping from mirrors and screaming from the basement. This is a brilliant movie and I do recommend everyone gives it a chance.
Some good imagery but a very standard exorcism movie, didn't really come with anything new and a lot of the CGI was off putting. Good performance by Mr Hopkins however.
Anthony Hopkins can't be beat, but this tale is too long & too slow.
Hopkins is really the only good thing about this movie. It's your standard exorcist film with all the typical tropes. I wasn't enthralled. Not much else to say.
While it has usually strong work by director Mikael Håfström (Shanghai, Derailed) and star Anthony Hopkins (Proof, Desperate Hours) but it's mainly boring stuff
Anthony Hopkins, as always, was excellent but he's not match for the movie's dawdling pace and lack of thrills. The cinematography accomplished it's goals of being eerie and evocative. At the end of the day they tried to please the Catholic Church more than making a good film.
Not a particularly scary horror movie, and Colin O'Donoghue's acting had me cringing a bit, the story itself is not bad. A bit formulaic but not bad. And it had a lot of cats, of which none were killed, so that's a plus in my book.
The debate was intriguing, but it was not truly convincing to stand out the film as a whole, Anthony Hopkins shines even in a bad movie...
So much potential but ultimately meh… huge plot gaps. Like if the demon wants to remain hidden and for nobody to believe in it, why does it bust a gut persuading Michael this truth? And as for Michael reticence… give me break. If I saw half those things happen, I would believe in satan. Which I don't. And still don't.
Dentro del marco del terror es una buena opción, al principio empieza un poco lenta pero luego todo empieza a ponerse terrorifico, una muy buena opción para las fechas de halloween
