The Shift Reviews
I was so excited for this movie. I am a big fan of The Chosen and House of David (amazing) which has very deep and intricate storylines, with fleshed out characters. The idea/concept for this movie is phenomenal, and the big name actors were encouraging. Unfortunately, this was the director’s first film- and it shows. The lead actor was not a good choice- vanilla, stereotypical actor that did not make me believe him at all. Poor depth of character without proper background build up. Why they chose to put the incomparable, legendary actor Sean Astin as a SUPPORT role with this weak lead actor is INSANE IMO. Just overall a poorly written screenplay, not well directed, with sub-par acting. Maybe a series would have been better with a more seasoned director. Just too big of a movie idea for a first timer. Very disappointing. 😞
Trailer (short film) which lead to this full feature was awesome. This was junk
I love it great sci-fi movie. And great retailing of a great book of the Bible.
Reality Shifting was discovered in the early 1950s and people have been practicing it ever since. This movie has so much misinformation and dumb stereotypes. It's a terrible movie and if you want to learn about reality shifting, read the book written on it, do NOT watch this movie.
The Shift is the greatest Christian movie ever THE GOOD This movie is basically Job; the movie, it is literally job in present day/ Future. The Lead actor was great, he was in Wonder Woman 1984, the acting overall from everyone was top tier. THE MIXED I really wanted to see more of the endless worlds and what they offered. The pacing and tone was okay but it was flip flopping most of the time and it left me confused sometimes. There was nothing BAD about this movie. OVERALL: The Shift is a great Christian movie but a decent “normal” movie (whatever that means) it leaves a lot to be desired but gives you a lot to toy with. The best thing about this movie is its message. 76%
I can see it being appealing to people who have no idea how toxic Christianity is or who are so deep into the Americanization of the triune god that they think that a gun will k1ll the devil. But it's a really badly acted trope that has some spices of Sci-Fi in it... that barely give it half a star. . I should've known it was bad what with the critic rating being so low and the poopcornmeter review being so high was a dead give away. These are the oldest stories in the world you know. Right?
Love the movie! This movie kept me on edge the entire time. Keep up with the great work Angel Studios!
All around feel good movie
This is a must see movie! We absolutely loved it and recommend it to everyone. It makes you think that is for sure.
Beautiful. So fitting to bring the Job, oldest book of the Bible, forward as sci-fi. No gore no cussing, and very compelling.
This movie is very entertaining, a must watch.
Not bad .... but not my favorite.
I honestly thought the movie was very well done, in fact, even shedding a tear during my viewing of it. What blows me out of the water is the massive difference between those that are watching it and rating it and the critic’s opinions. There is definitely a bias towards this type of movie by many critics, a couple of the reviews were almost angry at the movies attempt to throw a sci-fi genre to the story of Job. To the critics, I say your implicit bias towards religion is dilegitimizing your critical abilities, and only making you appear to be angry at religion itself. The movie as well done the acting is solid and the quality of the cinematography pleasing.
I must admit, some negative reviews of this film have more of a biff against Christianity and the plot of finding purpose even in existence of evil and the sovereignty of God. If you are angry at God for the existence of evil, this movie might challenge you, or you may just hate it. I loved it, my wife loved it, especially with huge tragedy just having occured in our lives. I highly recommend, just don't go into it thinking the story of Job is an kids story about doing good and a happy ending, you'll be disappointed, in the same way you may be when life doesn't go the way you want....
Loved it enough to watch it twice
Some of the critics wrote, it was hard to follow. It's not. A wonderful modern telling of Job.
The cinematography was excellent and the actors were top-notch. Angel Studios has done so much to elevate the faith based film genre by creating beautiful productions with quality actors and that is why I gave 3 stars. What tripped me up was the story. I went into it knowing that it was a modern retelling of Job’s story and that may have complicated things for me. My brain had difficulty reconciling science fiction with the actual, historical life of Job. Though I enjoy superhero multiverse movies, this multiverse concept did not make sense to me. It was as if Kevin’s (the Job in this movie) suffering was all fantasy brought on by Satan- just a nightmarish illusion, while Job’s experience was very real. This didn’t sit well with me.
A horrible and boring movie and a discount version of DC and Marvel multi universe stories and movies. If Lucifer could be easily defeated by one person prayer then he would defeated in all the version of the multi universe.
I usually like these type of movies but this one did not hit. The plot wasn’t that great and the characters were uninteresting. Overall I was just bored.
Excellent movie and very much worth watching
