The Silence Reviews

Mar 22, 2025

One of the few movies that elicited an overwhelmingly negative response, and I'm only 30 minutes in. When we first meet Kiernan Shipka's character, we see that she's a constant target of bullying because she's... deaf? Maybe it's because I'm not an asshole or an idiot, but I don't know why being deaf would make you a target of bullying, which seemed perfectly acceptable to the majority of students. The second time I experienced a visceral reaction is when the main family is first terrorized by the monsters. It comes immediately after Stanley Tucci's friend Glenn's car flips over a hill and is trapped underneath. As the family flees to their car to seek help, their dog begins barking frantically. Instead of MAKING THE DOG STOP in any meaningful way - only saying "Shhh..." or yelling - they are mercilessly pelted by the little demon bats. Even as Glenn begins firing his gun to redirect the creatures' attention, they look around in amazement, like they're seeing snow during the summer in LA. Honestly, that was so fking unbelievable and very stupid, just hold the dog's mouth shut? Like wtf, really. they spent more time crying over the situation than trying to resolve the issue, i.e., get the dog to stfu long enough to flee and get help. Bad movie, very crap.

A lot similar to A quiet place, but I like it, not as much as that but was decent

People are saying this idea was before A Quiet Place which might be true since it was based off a book, but it was still very mid. The creatures are like large bats who cannot see and only can hear. They can smell as they show them sniffing, but not very well as you will see lol. It's not scary at all like A Quiet Place. But the story is what was super dumb. Instead of staying inside the comfort of their own home where they would be safe with food and shelter, they decide to drive off and get stranded on the country side, fighting for their lives. Also, if they all know sign language, then why do they need to speak during times they need to be super quiet? Even in A Quiet Place they mouthed their words without making a sound. I'm also not a fan of Kiernan Shipka either so that didn't help.

Now I don't LOVE this movie, but it's dence. I am, however, sick of people saying it's a ripoff of A Quiet Place. This movie was in development way before, and I think if A Quiet Place didn't come out first it would have been more popular. Not to mention this is based on a book, too. It did make me actually upset at some parts, but the concept of these monsters is super cool.

The life blood of this genre revolves around loud babies, dogs, and children. The plot doesn't seem to have a solid direction and the last 5 minutes of the movie attempts to sum up what the previous 85 failed to do. The cast is good, but the writing is lacking. If a movie is going to lean into the cult scene, it really needs to lean into it. This movie tries to be too many different things and fails at most.

I personally enjoyed the movie, thought it was solid and I really enjoyed the ending. Makes you think, if you got the time I’d watch!

Really bad spin off. Everything was so mediocre. I don't recommend this one bit tbh. Also SUPER. Predictable

I loved this post apocalyptic movie.

This is a decent and serviceable addition to the "don't make a sound or you'll die" movie genre. I'm sure many viewers will immediately compare it to the A QUIET PLACE movies, but THE SILENCE is not a clone of the A QUIET PLACE movies. THE SILENCE movie is based on the novel THE SILENCE by Tim Lebbon, published in 2015, a couple of years before any of these movies were produced. So much for accusations of plagiarism, right? THE SILENCE is pretty grim and doesn't hold back on the dangers faced by the characters. For example, a young mother and her baby get forced off a stalled subway train full of silent passengers because the baby cries. The movie doesn't show the expected carnage and death, but one can see the monsters rounding the bend headed toward the sound of the baby's cries. There is blood, guts, cultists who have removed their tongues, and tons of toothy blind bat-like creatures who are extremely hungry and extremely fertile.

The film is a poor attempt at a spin-off following the very well-received 2018 film, A Quiet Place. It finds itself in a ridiculously bad position between a parody and serious film. The casting of a hearing person in a deaf role would be less offensive if the performance and logical application of a deaf lifestyle were more accurate - unfortunately the justification that the character recently became deaf is a lazy excuse.

B list actors (Tucci is a solid B+ I guess) risk their careers in a ripoff of of 'A Quiet Place'. Imagine wanting to watch the Krasinski film but all you got was a bootleg DVD from Temu. Plot holes abound, pointless story arcs that dont resolve, a deaf character played by a hearing actor (nice job), horrific computer generated images, and an ending that makes you want to give yourself an enema, this movie makes me hate at least 3 key aspects of the human experience. I think the prevailing reason why I hated it so much was how much it is apparent that the producers tried and still made whatever this is. There are movies in this world that are so bad that you have to watch them just for the laughs. This is not one of them. I lost 2 hours of my life and I will never forgive whoever John Leonetti is for this.

Very bad movie, with cheap CGI and mediocre performances. It was like a parody of A Quiet Place

This movie is appallingly bad. Who wrote this absolute joke of a script? Overriding summary: stupid people die stupidly when crisis strikes. Every single decision was wrong. Watching this movie is like seeing the backstory of the dead bodies the protagonists would be stepping over in a normal suspense or horror movie. The ending is pointless and resolves nothing. The only amusing moment in the ENTIRE film was the wood chipper, which illustrates how easily this entire "crisis" could've been solved. Whatever you do, don't waste your time on this garbage.

If I could go less then half a star. I would! Litrally the worst film I’ve ever watched it made no sense, wasted 2 hours and I could of been spending that time watching the Tesco documentary

Knock off version of a Quiet Place, nothing happens, also they used a hearing actor to play a deaf character, so there's that...

I love Tucci and Shipka. This was okay. We needed more info on the crazy man, I would like to see more carnage when they finally stopped them. I wish they would have had the story where the things were eradicated rather than "I wonder if they adapt to the cold in the future?". They should have let me write it.

A quiet place knockoff with the fakest lightning I've ever seen.
