The Similars Reviews

The best feature-length episode of The Twilight Zone you’ll see this year.

| Original Score: 4/5 | May 12, 2023

Isaac Ezban's psychotropic sci-fi film's more bizarre plot devices poke all kinds of proverbial fun at the golden era greats the film is unabashedly aping, but the film's real draw is the characters' predicament ...

Los Parecidos is a beautiful looking, paranoia laden Mystery/Sci-Fi cross over that feels almost like an old Twilight Zone episode made by a talented crew of cinema lovers with modern effects.

| Original Score: 5/5 | Apr 19, 2020

Most episodes of The Twilight Zone run 30 minutes, and there's barely enough material here to justify a feature, but Ezban makes it work.

| Original Score: 3 | Dec 1, 2016

Between The Incident and now The Similars (Los Parecidos), Isaac Ezban is proving himself to be one of the best directors of brainy sci-fi.

With enough narrative complexity, homages to vintage science fiction and sheer entertainment to justify repeat viewings, The Similars is an absolute treat for genre fans and we highly recommend that you hunt it down as soon as possible.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Sep 1, 2016

Director Isaac Ezban, whose previous feature, The Incident, also had a dreamlike quality, brings a very distinctive look to the film, in more ways than one.

| Original Score: 3/5 | Aug 26, 2016

Funny, suspenseful, inventive and charming, this knows when to tone down the homage and become genuinely frightening ...

| Aug 26, 2016

Like an episode of The Twilight Zone guest-directed by Luis Buuel, The Similars is richly absurd in premise but also founded on a bedrock of social and political issues.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Aug 26, 2016

a surreal assimilation of reality to fantasy, wearing its generic influences (sci-fi, noir, horror, pulp) on its face, while also weaving them into the very fabric of it story. It may be concerned with copying, but The Similars is a true original.

This SF spoof eventually turns silly, but not in an interesting way.

| Apr 14, 2016

An elegant and eficient suspense film that makes great use of all it's resources mainly due to Isaac Ezban's great directing and writing. [Full review in Spanish]

In stylistic terms, however, The Similars is fully realized as a semi-camp yet canny homage to vintage suspense templates.
