The Stroll Reviews
A great look at the Trans experience. It is a good look at a time in New York that some would like to erase. As a gay man I have heard of the time of the Meat District in New York. A dark and sometimes dangerous period that was the only way for some people to express themselves. It's what some are trying to do LGBT+ community again especially going for the Trans/Non-binary community because they are seen as easy targets, that lies and disinformation can be used to oppress and criminalize their natural being. It was the Trans and drag people of color who lead the Stonewall riots and the beginning of the LGBT+ Rights movement and we should never diminish their struggles and fight for equality. Very educational and moving documentary.
Both sad and joy-filled, this is a thought-provoking history of transwomen sex workers in NY who made a living — when they could — along the 14th street corridor known as The Stroll. It's also a history of NY and a reminder of the collateral damage of the policies of Mayor Giuliani and Bloomberg. Women went to prison, often for years, just for trying to make a living. Shame on us. A testament to them.
I had no idea just how much the Trans community has suffered throughout our collective history. A heartbreaking story with an uplifting ending. The bad reviews are from haters, this is a fantastic documentary!
Filled with lies about NYC, lies about the meat packing district, and lies about gender. Really tasteless.
I'd block it if I could
It's an amazing documentary, which tells the history and story of transgender life who have no choice but become sex works. It's a story of living alive to themselves, and how the society forgets and law enforcers prosecuted them, but they sticked together to fight for their rights to live when no one is helping. Without a doubt, it's an inspiring story for new generations fights for their liberty and requests for justice.
Loved THE STROLL. The co-directors Kristen Lovell & Zackary Drucker seem perfectly matched in collaborating on such a powerful, honest, and creative documentary. I was riveted.
