The Tender Bar Reviews

Yeesh… soooo boring. The best thing about it was that it couldn’t possibly offend anyone.

I loved this film! I thought it had a great acting, excellent writing and was a very enjoyable slice of life. It seemed realistic and with a good blend of libe and grit. I'd rate it a 95 and I give the soundtrack 100%

This movie is underrated. It captures a lower middle class family that actually works pretty well. It also highlights that intellectual capabilities do not assure you of success. Which should be a shoutout to people who underestimate people based on their collegiate credentials. Wisdom can be found in the most unlikely places if you are wise enough to see it. Superb writing, witty and thoughtful.

An absolute yawnfest. Great main actors, but the rest are seriously flawed.

A truly well done coming of age story, not about a celebrity with a cliche ending, but a regular person building a meaningful and great career for themselves with the support of those around him. Great movie.

Put simply, I LOVED this movie….

Derivatively means well around Affleck ad Sheridan’s familiar dynamic, this slice of coming-of-age life establishes a prompted thought to ponder rather than delving deeper on its own albeit upholding a feel-good natured picture with routine genericity on general terms. (B)

This was so well-done! The characters were real, the locations were fantastic, the screenplay was authentic, The music was the sound-track of my early life. Kudos to all the actors!

Actors were perfect. George Clooney knows how to make a movie

This is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen, if not the most boring. A lot of the movie was cringe worthy and a majority of it was just confusing. The main character (JR) is set up to be super smart and hard working. His childhood is the most interesting part of this movie. That and the family members were the reason I even gave it 1 star. When JR gets into college, it felt pretty deserved. Savor it because nothing after this point will feel that way again. JR arrives at college and has a love at first sight moment. He will chase this girl and then continue going back to her after she dumps him time and time again. Why? Good question! Nothing about her is shown to be particularly interesting and their relationship goes nowhere. This made it baffling when all we really get in between JR's freshman and senior year is a sex scene between the two that goes on for way too long. JR has a downfall similar to Rory Gilmore, but missing seasons of context and gradual change. Like Rory (pre-reboot) it ends with him going off to do what he initially planned on doing; going to law school, which I had pretty much forgotten about through his struggle with the newspaper. The dialogue isn't bad but the cursing is excessive. I'm not one to clutch my pearls. This script sounds like it was written by someone who just learned to curse. When you curse every other sentence, it takes all impact away from those words. Overall, this movie isn't even laughably bad. It's not even worth a hate watch. Hardly anything happens. I mentioned a struggle, but that word is used lightly. Side note: unless I missed something about JR going to the salon, why would you cast his child self with straight dark brown hair and his adult self with curly blonde hair? Double side note: why would you add a scene of JR's child and adult counterparts interacting without any explanation or reasoning for that plot device?

Extremely relatable, well acted, and very believable, thanks to the great acting, set design, filming locations, and music. Good will Hunting meets Catcher in the Rye. Affleck kills his role. Loved it, and you probably will too. Everything about it is heartwarming while being thoroughly entertaining. It wanders around a little bit, but it arrives at its precise destination.

I loved this movie very much. Particularly, Ben Affleck's character, as it reminded me of certain times of my own life and some people i knew/know. All the characters and scenes were depicted in a very realistic way. It brought me back in time. Then around the middle or a bit further, it started to lose some steam, particularly due to some choices, but i understood why those were made and i was still very invested in how it would all play out. I never read the memoir but George Clooney did a great here, and as i said, Ben Affleck was phenomenal here. His character will stay with me forever, as i once had to fulfill that role and also had someone, in some sinilar ways, trying to guide me in my own life. I would have given it 5 stars, if it weren't for that loss of steam around the middle or a bit later.

I really enjoyed this movie. Great acting and story.

Absolutely OSCAR worthy film from start to finish. How this film was ignored speaks volumes to the Hollywood churn & burn. Affleck is the uncle WE ALL need - despicable that this film was left out. Beautiful movie.

This is yet another coming of age drama without a single moment of freshness or originality that depends on the soundtrack to definite its time and place. It's shocking that director Clooney is the man behind the camera here - this feels like pedestrian, 온라인카지노추천-movie level filmmaking. There's not necessarily anything here to hate, but by the same token, the whole endeavor is totally forgettable - and antipathy may be even worse than disgust. Affleck has been receiving some awards notice for his supporting performance, and he's perfectly serviceable in the role, but this will not be remembered as his finest role, and no one else in the cast will have that concern either. Considering the talent involved, one would expect something to happen that shows a spark of creativity or originality - but it never happens. The lead character of JR Maguire never grabs ahold of our attention, and we frankly have no concern whether or not he achieves his lofty ambitions. A fine cast is wasted here - everyone seems to be going through the motions but without any enthusiasm or joy.

A slightly unimaginative though warm and enjoyable story about nothing much in particular. Ben Affleck is a joy as always.

Well done, well played…Ben Affleck character is just fabulous in his ‘man advice' and loving his nephew (in his rough way) into a man. Great movie!

Excellent movie! Wonderful story, with a lot of 70's music, because it takes place during these years. You take a great storyline, and put it with great actors, and you've got a great movie. I highly recommend seeing this film. It's worth seeing!

A beautiful story of an Irish-American family who pull together for their prodigy. Excellent acting from Rabe, Affleck and Lloyd. I can't understand how anyone can be down on this lovely production by George Clooney
