The Trust Reviews

Mar 6, 2025

Nic Cage does a pretty good Nic Cage impression here, Elijah Wood shows he's got a little more range than folks generally expect. This is a heist movie, and does have its moments. Still, the fun feels more like an impression of fun, and there's no moral here if you're looking. Whatever comes after post-post-nihilism in the philosophy that meaning is inaccessible in a s***-happens world, this might be it. Probably not worth watching, just do nothing with an hour and a half instead.

Buena película. Historia simple y ritmo lento pero entretenida. En algo como esto las actuaciones son fundamentales y los 2 protagonistas brillan en todo momento. Tal vez esperaba mas pero en general esta bien.

I never write reviews but this movie really sucked so bad if I can prevent one person from watching and wastingtheir time. I feel I am doing movie lovers a service. The ending is terrible and made no sense.

While it's not the best cop action film ever Wood and Cage are great together. It also has some hilarious scenes such as when Cage puts his eyeglasses on the kill someone.

I enjoyed it. Cage was engaging as a sociopathic cop. More character driven than action.

It was pretty good but definitely not my favorite Cage movie. It had some interesting scenes but I didn't care for the ending. I'd probably not watch it again.

I found this movie to be surprisingly entertaining. This movie is not your typical rip and run shoot em up action flick or intelligently planned, ocean eleven style heist film. It's just two regular guys with no experience or logic reason to attempt this reckless pipe dream plan. The plot is unusually gripping and the ending is not as predictable as you would think. If you love Nick Cage, then you'll enjoy his character and Elijah Wood's role a stark contrast from his usual work. Despite the fact that Wood looks like a 15 year old kid .

The idea is good, crooked evidence room officers planning a heist, and the cast is competent so this should have worked but it didn't. The attention to detail is there but it all felt wasted on the close-ups and what felt like a rushed pace

Light drama with an action/thriller coating. The tempo is a bit slow, but at the same it takes it's time to introduce our two main characters and slow/fast is a matter of taste anyways. Cage plays another quirky kind of over the top character and Wood's character seems more sane, sensitive and to have a more depth. I enjoyed this light and slow drama quite a bit, but the creators could have created more tension and suspence in the most exciting scenes.

They were taking us into a new world, showing us cops who work WAY WAY behind the lines. And for a while there it looked like this had a shot at becoming the "Rudy" of heist movies. Then all of a sudden Cage's character turns into a psychotic, coldblooded killer. Then our Frodo does the same thing - out of the blue. I'm surprised they didn't turn them into vampires or zombies in act III. So did the Director decide to rewrite the last forty pages? Or was it a committee driven effort? Either way, it sucked.

A nihilistic modern heist film that starts off strong but fails to carry the momentum through to the conclusion. Nic Cage gives another great performance as a LVPD officer who, much like Cage, walks the line between serious and unhinged.

The music in the film is an obvious attempt to copy Tarantino. Unfortunately the music in this film stinks and makes you which the movie is even shorter. Some events are kinda unexpected. The plot revolves around the naivety of both main characters. They really didn't think this through. There seems to be nothing much else to it.

The Trust could have been a good heist comedy or a serious crime drama, but it tries to be both and fails. It's about two Vegas cops who discover the existence of a heavy duty vault in the back of a convenience store that they think is full of money belonging to a big time drug dealer. So they decide to pull off a heist. It starts out comedic, with kind of a Reno 911 feeling, and we're interested. After all, nobody does wacko better than Nicholas Cage. His fellow cop, Elijah Woods, holds his own, too. But as the two cops get into the heist, people start dying and the whole film just goes off the rails. The conclusion is tragic and inappropriate. Perhaps the Brewer brothers were trying to pull off a serio-comic Coen brothers type thing, but there's none of the Coens' delicate balance here. Instead, we have a clumsy mish mash, a film with no thematic cohesion. Too bad, because it begins well, but it heads down the drain in the second half, and the ending is painfully stupid.

Has one or two laughs in the first half and one or two moments of genuine tension in the second half, aaaaaand that's about it. A very understated movie to have gotten both Elija Wood and Nic Cage. Just one of them (especially if it was Cage) and I might have expected something like this, but was surprised given the presence of both. He still gets a freakout in of course, but not a whole lot, like... Happened.

Really bad. But good for a bad Nicholas Cage movie marathon.
