The Ugly Stepsister Reviews
One of the BEST movies of 2025 so far!!!! So creative, unique, fantastical! Loved it!!! Great “Cinderella” adaptation!
amazing. fans of the substance must see
Just got back from seeing The Ugly Stepsister and wanted to leave my two cents. No Spoilers. To be honest, this portrays such a female experience from start to finish that I'm not sure how many men are actually going to appreciate this movie. It is exquisitely tragic, beautifully filmed, and the lead actress deserves an Oscar. Her character arc from wide-eyed hopeful innocent to what she turns into is so amazing. The micro expressions on her face show every thought and feeling as if we were in her head. The body horror is good. There was not much the camera pulled away from. And at one point I actually gagged. I'm looking forward to rewatching this to appreciate the journey. Two severed big toes up from this girl.
Sick and twisted, with beautiful visuals.
Reminded me so much of The Substance, would really recommend it.
I loved it! This is a fantastic twisted adaptation of the original Grimms dark fairytale. It has excellent body horror scenes thatll make you squirm. I highly recommend seeing this movie in the theaters, I absolutely love this movie, its gonna stick with me for a while. Would pair great with The Substance
Body horror meets a classic Disney princess tale. Cinderella but the focus is on the ..you guessed it, Ugly Step Sister. it was cool to see how the story unfolded and how it all came together, and ended. warning: it is NOT your parents version of Cinderella.
This movie is a must see! It was entertaining from start to end. So many unexpected scenes, and a unique twist on the story of Cinderella.
An absolutely delightful movie. Witty, visually captivating, beautiful cinematography, remarkable soundtrack. Black comedy with elements of body horror, quite physical or even surgical at moments, but delightfully so. All actors done superb job. The finest performance of them imho the mother - Ane Dahl Torp, although the principal role - Lea Myren - very impressive as well, and so are all those in secondary roles. A lot of fine details. The pace is well measured although might seem a bit slowish, or rather 'too Scandinavian' :) at times. Overall, reminds me of Delicatessen 1991 and The Substance 2024. The director has my enthusiastic applauses.
(Complementary Screams of Madness)
The Ugly Stepsister could be the bratty little sister to The SubstanceBut unlike The Substance, Ugly Stepsister has a hard time keeping up the camp factor that made Substance so specialBut dont dismiss this one, its got its own little brand of horror thats hard to shake after the credits roll. Could have been 15 minutes shorter, with tighter editing, but it was always interesting to watch. Another cult classic in the making!
Original and entertaining
It was intense! So good!
Good for what it was.
