The Villainess Reviews
Immediately immersive, The Villainess has everything you want.
| Sep 14, 2021
"The Villainess" spins with dynamic energy of wanton mayhem and operatic displays of graphic violence when the talking stops and confrontations begin.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Apr 12, 2021
Frenzied and kinetic, The Villainess careens all over the place with reckless abandon, where it hits manic, thrilling, dangling-off-a-speeding-bus-while-wielding-a-hatchet highs.
| Original Score: B+ | Jul 1, 2020
The Villainess is a hyper-violent revenge movie with fight scenes to die for.

"The Villainess" is so much more than an action flick, particularly through its production values, acting and directing on the action scenes

Your eyes might feel bruised but your pulse will remain elevated throughout Jung Byung-gil's erratic slice of brutal revenge, The Villainess.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Oct 10, 2019
See The Villainess for some of the craziest stunts and amazing fights, but don't expect an easy ride for plot.

It's a frankly ridiculous combination but somehow it works.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Feb 22, 2019
Coming out swinging from the opening frames, writer/director Byung-gil Jung's The Villainess pistol-starts with a breathtaking first person action sequence... then proceeds to top itself repeatedly.

A much-needed shot in the arm in terms of action films, female-led films and South Korean cinema. I hope that actress Kim Ok-bin and director Jung Byung-gil will be appreciated for their efforts and move on to do more ambitious work.
| Original Score: 4/5 | Oct 31, 2018
The Villainess works best when it's not concerned with its plot and story and focusing on presenting intricately choreographed visceral action that builds to bloody crescendos.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Oct 31, 2018
The Villainess is an action film that simultaneously echoes the spirit of 90s Asian action movies, the cinema of Park Chan-wook and even Euro crime-thriller classics...and yet feels...contemporary in its unrelenting energy and aesthetic polish

Villainess is an ambitious whirlwind that just misses its target, but it's a helluva ride.
| Aug 27, 2018
While often enthralling, The Villainess is also a frustrating example of excess run amok.
| Aug 21, 2018
The fight choreography was absolutely ridiculous but in the best possible way.
| Aug 20, 2018
The Villainess will do the job for those who like their violence harsh and unforgiving.
| Original Score: 3/5 | Mar 19, 2018
That's how to kick off an action spectacle.
| Mar 2, 2018
This Korean action-thriller is more everything than the John Wick films and Atomic Blonde put together.
| Feb 2, 2018
It's not merely that the action is superb in this movie; it's superb without ever repeating itself, and that's all the more impressive because there is a whole lot of it.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Feb 1, 2018
... if you're a fan of ultra-violent action and stunt scenes, you'll have much to enjoy.
