The Way Reviews
A great film portrayal of what it is like to walk el Camino de Frances.
So much to say about this movie - really hard to put my thoughts into words. Before I first saw it, I was expecting some great revelation of what Faith is and what Faith should be. And, tbh, I left completely underwhelmed. Since then - maybe 13 years ago, I have watched this movie maybe 20 or 30 times. Each time I watch it, it moves me and I understand more. What I've learned is that Faith is Individual. Each of us has our own personal relationship with God. There is no 'one size' for all. Many will see this and will be moved by it as I am.
One of the most poignantly brilliant and beautiful movies I’ve ever seen
Tugs at your heart constantly. Once in a while, a story comes around and it affects the soul profoundly. This is one of those stories.
One of the best travel movie ever made loved the actors and their bonding the script & direction is awesome so inspiring movie
I just rewatched this movie for the third time, the script is solid and the main four actors deliver, Martin Sheen, James Nesbitt, Deborah Unger and Yorick Van Wageningen have chemistry as their characters try to sort their own personal demons or reasons behind their journey. If you're looking for something off the beaten path, give this movie a chance, I think you'll enjoy it as much as I did.
I really enjoyed it. Good plot and great seeing the walk
Loved it!! Such a wonderful film and great cast!!
This movie is more of a travelogue / spiritual meditation / journey-of-the-heart kind of film with great acting / script and authentic on-location filming in France and Spain along the Camino de Santiago (aka The Way of St. James). But more importantly, it inspired me to take the same exact journey. It was already a turbulent year for me, and when I saw "The Way" I simply knew what I needed to do next. So I quit my job and got a one-way ticket to France with no idea when I might come back. The only thing planned was the starting point on the French side of the Pyrenees (which you cross into Spain), the boots I would wear, and what was in my backpack. 35 days and 500 miles later I completed the same on-foot pilgrimage along the that the characters traverse in the film. And I'll never be the same. I learned to not fear the future, to trust the day, to be present in the moment. And along the way, witnessed so many wonders and made friends with so many kindred spirits from faraway places. The experience recharged my soul, deepened my faith and gave me stories to tell for a lifetime. One could say, seeing "The Way" changed my life for the better. Maybe yours too?
The movie really makes you think, and you witness how others touch our lives... family, friends, and even strangers can touch us deeply. It depicts a wonderful journey of broken people searching, finding, healing, and loving.
So heartwarming and touching. Really captures the spirituality and magic of The Camino!
It was wonderful! I especially liked the post interview!
Wonderful story of life, death. grief and growth
Brilliant Movie. In my top 10.
A long aimless journey.
Christian viewers will undoubtedly enjoy slurping up the religious platitudes served up in The Way. Others will spend much of the viewing time wondering when the intrepid hikers will get to their destination and put an end to the movie. In this Emilio Estevez offering, ophthalmologist Thomas Avery (Martin Sheen) travels to France to recover the body of his son, who has died on the famed Camino de Santiago pilgrimage. Before you have time to genuflect, the doctor is hiking the trail in the footsteps of his son. There seems to be two main problems with the film. Firstly, there is far too much in the way of exposition. Even the police officer who reunites father with son feels the need to give a lengthy history lesson about the trail. Secondly, it is repetitive, with montages of people walking followed by supposedly deep, meaningful chats ("You don't choose a life. You live one!!") followed by more montages and so on and so on. For those in need of renewing their faith, The Way is the perfect pill. Others will find themselves scratching their heads while admiring the beautiful scenery.
My wife's brother travelled the Camino de Santiago several years ago. We stumbled across this movie on Amazon Prime while at home on a Sunday evening. It was well worth watching. Somewhat predictable, yes. A bit schmaltzy, yes. But the feeling of becoming connected to family, history, friends and nature oozes through the film. The scenery is delightful, and there is a bit of adventure throughout the pilgrimage.
Sentimentally high-minded, but utterly unrealistic. With no English subtitles, all these European accents are generally unintelligible.
Loved it♥️, An engaging, heart warming, story,of a Father and his need,to come to terms, with the life choices made by his, estranged and now deceased son, accidently killed while walking the Camino De Santiago Way.Superb acting from all the main characters, Beautifully filmed, taking in the breathtaking scenery, along the way.Maybe not everyones type of movie, but Sheen draws you in,and keeps you interested,by way of his superbly underacted role,a master at work.Emotionallly, and Spiritually uplifting, without the sentimentality. Estevez should be very proud of this effort,♥️👍
I loved this wonderful movie so much I watched it twice, and will watch it again. I enjoyed the acting, the story, the interplay between the characters, the scenery, the music and everything about it. Well done!
