The Whistleblower Reviews

Apr 18, 2025

This is a shocking true tale of human trafficing. Amazing that some found it "too violent," considering that the film is based on truth. Worse, nothing was done to correct things and there are still over 2 million victims in the world.

This is a good film. Rachel Weisz gives a strong performance and the rest of the cast does a good job too. This film is depressing and can be hard to watch for some viewers, but it tells an important story.

Another tale about corruption and corporate greed trumping human rights, and human decency. This was a dark and gritty journey to take, for me - sitting on a couch with snacks. My heart goes out to those poor kids who through greed, naivety, or need were duped or betrayed by friends and family. The family left behind are shattered as well. I am disgusted at the choices made by those in charge of the 'peacekeepers' at Democra (I forget the real name of the real company right now...) Sure it starts with the criminals, and the men with boots on the ground. But the buck stops with the supervisors, and the human dignity of the mission is lost there. We must demand more from leadership, and take corporations off the pedestal, as though capitalism can do no wrong.

An important story & decent lead performance from Weisz are cut off at the knees by a bad script, cheaply shot, with poor direction & confusing editing. Subject matter is better executed on any given episode of ‘SVU’. #nitrosMovieChallenge

Great movie, makes it painfully obvious why it is so important for the powers that be to make it increasingly difficult to become a whistleblower

This movie is not for the very sensitive. It's hard truth about human trafficking which is happening all over the world. I love Rachel Weisz, in all her movies, many of them are about real events. This movie is about real events, scenes are hard to watch but the lady played by Rachel W is so courageous to persevere to denounce human trafficking. In this situation it is women. I believe that it's mostly women that are trafficked all over the world. When will men evolve!! People that do this (human trafficking) have the brain of a Neanderthal...

It's just a long winding drama about wicked people doing sinful things with the seasoning of conspiracy.

Whistleblower takes aim at sex-trafficking true story and hits squarely. Weisz becomes an international cop that uncovers what the UN and private sector contractors were wanting to keep quiet.

This movie was a heartbreaking and gut-wrenching plotline. The fact that it is completely based on a true story as well, makes it almost that much is harder to watch. I defiantly recommend this movie if you are interested in serious real-world crime and corruption, but be prepared for some scenes that may be hard to watch. Sex trafficking is a huge problem in today's world and this film allows one to truly see behind it.

Rather dull and overly dramatised fiction. It's the classic story of corrupt cops yet again, but this time with corrupt UN and military people as well. Everything was predictable, there wasn't much action, the characters were forgettable and underdeveloped, and considering the disgusting nature of sex trafficking, there wasn't enough emotion here either. Then the ending was inappropriate because the aftermath should have been shown rather than relying on a few lines of text. The pacing was acceptable but could have been better. Rachel Weisz gave a good performance, but the rest of the cast were pretty average. The cinematography/editing/visual effects were awful. Things were far too grainy and colourless. Finally, the soundtrack was completely unmemorable.

Wow! This biographical film gets hard to watch at times, but Rachel Weisz's performance is compelling and the story is truly mind-blowing. Definitely an eye-opener.

Gripping. Very tough to watch. I clenched my fists in frustration throughout the toughest scenes, wanting, as a man, to punch, to hurt, to maim the perpetrators especially knowing that it is based on a true story. Rachel Weisz is tremendous. She never lets go of her character. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DynCorp

Weisz was fantastic and the story interesting. The film also did a great job of building tension.

Nice plot, yet very hard to watch (in a bad way): Slow paced, with lots of ugly, uncomfortable and (literally and metaphorically) dark scenes. It was exhausting to sit through the whole movie and it left a horrible mood after it. I cannot say it's bad, but I cannot recommend it to anyone either.

I'm giving this movie a 10 not because I think it's perfect but because some of the negative reviews from the critics made me so angry. Sometimes, I think critics are all about self-importance and sounding "critical" more than they are about the quality or strength of a movie. This film is difficult to watch but so important. It's not a movie for the sake of making a movie but a revelation. It hit me in the gut, exactly where it was meant to. It made think about this world and my country at present. It's a tough reality but it sheds light on a painful truth. The fight between good and evil is a close match and it reminded me that if you stand for good you better stand now. The scenes are real and sometimes brutally authentic. Rachel Weisz does an outstanding job of portraying Kathryn Bolkovac. Her character has lost her daughter in a custody suite and thus her deep emotional involvement with the young girls who are victims of human trafficking into the sexual slave market is better understood. I do think her own fading relationship with her daughter could have been emphasized more to remind us she is fueled not only by her job and her natural humanity but her maternal instincts. Please don't miss this powerful film because you think it might be upsetting and especially not because of the critics. Allow it to motivate you for justice because God knows, this world needs to work for it everyday.

The U.N. was involved in sex trafficking throughout Bosnia during the late 90's. Think about that statement for a moment. Think about the implications behind what's just been said there. It's absolutely mind-boggling. And it's the thematic spine of Larysa Kondracki's "The Whistleblower," a cutting, stomach-churning look at some of the hardest truths about failed diplomacy that I've ever seen in a film. This is a rough go, that's for sure. And definitely not for the faint of heart. But it's the pathos and energy of Rachel Weisz's lead performance that ultimately keeps you in your seat, willing enough to see through the dingy, piss-to-a-boil-inducing amorality on display in some scenes. This is a movie that I'm glad happened about a series of events that I'm absolutely disgusted happened. It should be witnessed by all.

An intelligently thrilling and dramatic film, this one shed light on the ever-growing issue of human trafficking. Rachel Weisz is superb as the down-on-her luck divorcee who takes a job in Bosnia to earn money to move closer to her kids. She ends up spearheading an effort to stop corruption at the highest levels that involve trafficking women. Based on a true story, this movie will urge you to find out more about real life events. Given the movie is 7 years old, I had to wonder what became of this fantastic actress after this movie, as she has serious star power. I googled her to find out she is married to Daniel Craig. So if you're married to James Bond you probably get all the excitement you need at home. Nonetheless, I would like to see her in future spy/action movies. The issue this movie centers on is current and timely, and I also recommend viewers interested in the subject to watch Mira Sorvino's mini-series "Trafficked"

A serious movie. Well made

This is a film made specifically to highlight an important issue, it's not entertainment fodder. The performances, especially from Weisz, brought me to tears more than once. The Whistleblower is a highly charged, emotionally intense film, but like I said not for the faint of heart and not for you if you're in the mood to be uplifted. read more https://alatenightin.wordpress.com/2018/04/02/the-whistleblower/
