The Wind Reviews
There’s much to enjoy here in terms of ambitious storytelling, and Gerard’s truly memorable performance. It’ll be interesting to see the writer Teres Sutherland and Emma Tammi do next.

It is really compelling.

A solid performance from Caitlin Gerard as an abandoned woman who slowly loses her mind trying to survive on the open plains anchors this film and helps us stick with it when the script reaches its rough patches.
| Original Score: 2.5/4.0 | Nov 18, 2020
It's not in the same league, but it's still an atmospheric, sometimes chilling cut above the genre norm.

At a tightened 86 minutes, The Wind is a perfectly paced and effective atmospheric thrill ride.

With The Wind, Emma Tammi creates a piece of surprisingly intimate, female-oriented historical horror. There are no jump scares; it opts instead for a tense, pervasive sense of dread that permeates the entire film.

This film proves that you don't need millions of dollars to tell a story well.

It's a slow-building atmospheric freak-out that unnerves the audience from the start with its disparate images, enigmatic characters and expansive setting.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Apr 15, 2020
For me, at least, this period shocker was spooky as crap.

The Wind is a remarkable, captivating, and ultimately terrifying film that features some sensational performances, especially from Caitlin Gerard as Lizzie.

To anyone skeptical of the merits of genre cinema that is prone to immature bloodletting and superficial themes, The Wind, while quietly impressive, shows the mature side of genre storytelling.
| Original Score: 8/10 | Aug 26, 2019
Dialogue-sparse but atmosphere-rich, The Wind hangs its ominous hat on a marvelously rattled performance from Caitlin Gerard.
| Original Score: 3.5/5 | Aug 24, 2019
We'll never know if The Wind may have found a cinematic audience amidst the mini folk-horror resurgence pioneered by The Witch and recently furthered by Midsommar and Gwen (both of which played across indies and multiplexes this summer).

Frontier western horror overcomes narrative flaw with pure atmosphere and a great central performance.
| Original Score: 4 | Jul 4, 2019
In its quieter, sparer moments, however, The Wind begins to live up to the unstated obliqueness of its title.

A marvelously unsettling and elliptical tale of frontier terror.
| Original Score: B+ | May 1, 2019
Sure some of the general horror genre movie tactics are used to get a rise out of the audience, but the clever use of the setting and time period make this stand apart from usual fare.
| Original Score: B | Apr 30, 2019
Western horror The Wind uses isolation and barrenness to spin a spooky tale about hysteria, patriarchy, and religious fervor.
| Apr 16, 2019
The Wind is atmospheric, unique-looking and has moments of real fear. It tries too hard to be a brain-teaser, but it still works as a horror movie.
| Original Score: B | Apr 16, 2019
A striking psychological horror-western, director Emma Tammi's debut The Wind is something special.
