There's Something About Mary Reviews
Seemed very low budget, embarassing tacky 'dog prop', completely unfunny. My friend and I left after 20 minutes, should have left after 5.
What starts as unapologetically crass comedy is grounded in surprising sincerity, hitting the perfect balance. Jonathan Richman’s on-screen musical interludes deliver a sharp, offbeat wit that makes it unforgettable.
Love this movie, classic raunchy comedy, holds up 25 years later
One of the first movies I ever saw in the theatre. It's as funny now as it was then
Hilarious! Never gets old. One of the best comedies out there.
One of the funniest movies ever. 60%? Bah!
This film follows Ted, who, after a disastrous prom night 13 years earlier, decides to track down his high school date, Mary, whom he’s still smitten with. To find her, he hires a shady private investigator named Healy. However, when he locates Mary, he also falls for her and uses the personal details he uncovered while stalking her to try and win her over. Upon learning this, Ted travels to meet Mary himself, only to find he must contend with Healy and a host of other suitors Mary has unknowingly charmed, all vying for her heart. Overall, due to its raunchy humor, Stiller’s awkward and hilarious performance as Ted (he’s at his funniest when being tortured on screen with his physical comedy), and Diaz's radiant and endearing portrayal of the alluring Mary, inventive story, an eclectic ensemble of eccentric characters and some very unexpected and clever twists, this movie is really good, and even though there are some moments that haven’t aged well, and a few jokes that didn’t quite work for me personally, I still enjoyed my time with it and was pleasantly surprised by how much heart this silly yet sincere film had.
very innocent very funny movie
Very funny, I had a great time watching it
“BUS CRASH. 12 kids killed. What does this cost us?” Funniest movie of all time.
This movie is absolute trash made by teenagers and middle aged losers on meth.
Anotherfailure by Ben Stillborn. Mugging and yelling is not acting. Teenage boy humor.
This was one of my favourite comedies as a teen, but sadly it does not hold up. I think perhaps the comedy is aimed at teen boys of the 90's. It was worth a watch.
Watched this movie when I was fully pregnant. Needless to say I thought I was going to give birth in the theatre with laughing so hard.
Thought it was hilarous as a kid/teenager. Still very funny but it lacks replay-ability but thats partly because the scenes are so memorable. As far as romcoms go I think this kind of defines the genra for me. The only issue I have is that the movie is filled with laughs but the actual storyline and acting itself is devoid of real emotion and feeling. In retrospect though maybe this is all for the best as I believe "Theres something about Mary was meant to be light hearted and not really supposed to leave the audience through an emotional rollercoaster. I think the cast and crew set out to accomplish something and they hit it out of the park. A very memorable, funny, and light hearted romantic comedy. Possibly the gold standard for such an undertaking.
Very funny even though it can get a little stupid at times
This movie had a handful of scenes which at the time had a shock value, but have staled as the years have progressed. A mediocre cast starlit by Cameron Diaz and Brett Favre drudged its way through a "Guy meets girl. Guy gets girl. Guy loses girl. Girl tries to get girl again. Somehow against all odds guy DOES get girl" premise. Stiller plays the same slap stick, hard lucked role he's famous for now. Frankly it doesn't hold up.
Absolutely love this movie. Has me crying with laughter even after the 15th time watching it. Brilliant!
Absolutely hilarious I cannot believe nobody told me about this sooner. Hidden gem for sure!!
I guess it is a product of its time but it is still quite funny.
