Slow and humourless story about a guy who struggles with basic human emotions

Just brilliant, amazing performances by the cast and the kind of film that you won't forgot. It make me cry!!

The last quarter of the movie is breath taking. The feeling is unexplainable.

Excellent, smart and entertaining

I have a bit of a penchant for apocalyptic nihilistic movies and after a recommendation I would put this up there with Miracle Mile and The Quiet Earth as a great low budget movie. The premise is a little different and it shares elements of the odyssey. I will certainly be watching it again.

Films about the apocalypse are inherently thought-provoking, but These Final Hours has an emotional resonance that most of the others in the genre lack. Set in Australia, it is twelve hours before a firestorm envelops the country and wipes out all traces of life. In order to dull the pain, James (Nathan Phillips) abandons his pregnant girlfriend in order to attend a friend's party but, along the way, becomes the guardian of a young girl (Angourie Rice, who provides a stunning debut performance) in search of her father. The movie is filled with the expected stark images and bleak tones, but excels in developing the relationship between the two disparate primary characters. The film is bold, horrifying, touching and ultimately tragic.

Just apocalyptic mess, nude junky, bad language & lack of substance, why even does this matter?

despite the modest budget, the movie looks good, and the acting is brilliant (especially the two main leads, who give great performances) The movie itself is... relentlessly bleak, brutally cynical, and deeply misanthropic, there are some bittersweet moments here, but it's definitely more bitter than sweet. Not an escapist film by any stretch of the imagination.

The premise alone makes you think quite a bit - what would you do if you knew the world would end in 12 hours? The reactions of the people vary as one would imagine but the end of the world is actually not the main point of the movie. It's the moral redemption of a flawed man. This movie really tucks at your heartstrings and it'll surely stay on your mind for a while after watching.

"These Final Hours" Is an end of the world, apocalyptic, thriller. It tells the tail of the last 12 hours left for Australia. The Catastrophic effects of the impact of meteorites have already destroyed the America's, Europe and Africa's causing a tsunami of fire to slowly consume the world. Australia is next and the country has entered a state of lawlessness and chaos.  As the end of days promises to arrive down under, James ( Nathan Phillips ) leaves his pregnant girlfriend after an argument. James doesn't want to wind down the clock together with his girlfriend but rather spend it partying with friends at an apocalyptic house party. As James opts for the latter and leaves her for dead it is clear he is heading to party with another girlfriend and her friends. However On his way to the party, James' conscience pricks him into deviating from his plan and he becomes a young girls protector with a promise to get her to her dad before the end comes. " These final hours" makes the unruliness of life outside the law barbarous and wild. It becomes quite symbolic pointing at the importance of confronting immortality, with a sense that if everyone accepts that life is devoid of meaning and transitory, the world would descend into anarchy. However it is also about how even in the bleakest times, humanity and beauty can still be salvaged. In a sharp contrast from the blood splattered bedlam and scenes of horrific death there are moments that remind the audience that memories and relationships are precious. There is a memorable scene that purposely contrasts the bleak darkness of the previous few moments. A young girl, who despite knowing her death is impending, runs behind James's car smiling and waving after persuading him there was still time to go see his girlfriend one last time.  "These final hours" is a heinously unsubtle film that has shock moments throughout. It is a well paced film that keeps you fully immersed despite always knowing the ultimate outcome. Well worth checking out.

yeah; this was alright. i never really connected with any of the characters so i didn't really care what happened to them, so i doubt i'll remember i watched this one later. i'm not sure i'd recommend it, but it's not a bad one time watch.

Imagine......you come home to find you dog died of liver failure.....and then you walked down the street to your grandparents house seeking comfort only to find your Grandma dead of a stroke in her rocking chair. Then.... in sheer dread, you hop in the car to drive to your mom's house to share the bad news only to find out that your poor mom already found out about her dead mother and was so stricken from grief that she hung herself from the living room ceiling fan. It is 2021. There is Covid 19. Riots in the streets across America. Poverty, homelessness and violence across the world. Thank you "These Final Hours" for making me feel even worse.

Thought provoker. Well worth the watch, esp in these times of political/societal distress and upheaval. Some folks shrink from overwhelming challenges, and some find new purpose.

I LOVED THIS MOVIE❣ The acting from Nathan Phillips was SUPERB. I almost cried in that ONE SCENE...(I won't spoil it for others, but grab you some tissues if you're emotional.😥)

Memorable characters, poignant script, "goes there" where other films would be more timid and should not be. Tells a difficult story so carefully that it hits harder than if we were just shown a succession of brutal images. This is a great film, starting with a restrained script (considering the subject matter) and moving on to absolutely outstanding performances by all, perfectly-fitted original soundtrack. All good. This one hit me by surprise. 2.5M AUSD budget isn't miniscule but it's small, and they've made a film that puts so may bigger-budget productions to shame for the care put into it. i'm thinking of a couple of scenes that another director might have executed very literally, but great care has been taken here to set up small stories inside the bigger containing story of the film (and another story nearly as big as the entire film)... and every one of them is worth it.

‘These Final Hours' is another fine example of not needing a big budget and a tonne of VFX to make a film that has a deep impact. Using simple tricks (great use of lighting, coloured filters, well put together sets etc.), it creates a realistic-feeling end-of-the-world scenario that, in combination with the performances (a young Angourie Rice is the driving force here) and a well-written script that keeps things simple, but wise, emotional and full of humanity, it hits all its marks and leaves you feeling some kind of way.

There is something about Nathan Phillips I can't get enough of. He's got great presence on screen, and he excels in this role. This movie gives a very raw, very real look at what society, and those in it would look like if they knew the world was ending, and it was their last day alive. It's a compelling film.

Just your typical ‘end of he world' movie that succeeds by not over complicating things. This was good, it could have done without a few things but overall it was solid. 4 of 5

Shot on a very small budget of $2.5 million Australian dollars, this is a film that never feels cheaply made! Everything about this film, from the acting, the set design, even the atmosphere, make this the greatest disaster film of all time. This film goes on to show that you don't need Roland Emmerich or Michael Bay to produce an epic, apocalyptic story. This is one of my favorites, and I can't recommend it enough.

These Final Hours takes an achingly mundane approach to the overdone "last night on earth" scenario... and this makes it all the more poignant. Few movies are brave enough to ask the question, "What is the point when there is no hope?" and follow through on the bleakness of the premise. That lone makes it worth watching, but the compelling performances and slow-burn do the important thing... they make you care before it is all torn away... and what else actually matters?
