Thirteen Reviews

Mar 30, 2025

I really do love this film for the concept of this movie. I do understand that this review is written decades later however I really do think it would be phenomenal if there were to be a film called “fourteen” or “thirteen2” explaining Evie’s backstory, that was one thing I was stuck on because it does not really show much about Evie I do understand this film was about Tracy which is why I would find it so interesting if they were to make a second one. like I said I do understand this review is made decades after the movie so I suggest they get someone who looks like Nikki reed (Evie) when she was younger and describe her backstory. Overall I absolutely love this movie and it will forever be my comfort show.

"Thirteen" is an uncomfortable watch, but it is an honest movie that forces the viewer to face some harsh realities. This is a really well-made film that does a lot with strong performances and minimal settings. I found myself engaged with the story and even when the characters behaved in a frustrating manner, I felt it was intentional and it didn't make the difficult moments any easier to watch. Overall, this is a coming-of-age movie that takes a darker and more serious approach to the topic and it certainly leaves an impact, even if it is not a movie designed for entertainment.

Could’ve been a very powerful film but has several major shortcomings that rob it of emotional heft. The pacing is frenetic, particularly in the first, and we spend too much time seeing what the main character is doing and far too little time feeling what’s she’s feeling. The camera work and cinematography is highly distracting. From the handheld camera feel to the abrupt changes in colour palette, I spent too much time focused on that rather than connecting with the characters. There is some good acting, particularly from Holly Hunter, but again the script and pacing never allowed enough space for me to feel what the characters were going through emotionally. The best scene in the movie was one where the main character is alone in a bathroom looking at herself in the mirror. The film would’ve benefited from slowing down and focusing on more of these quiet, still moments of substance.

Filme mais ou menos, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas do delas sao mais ou menos, o filme tem um drama bacaninha e dá um leve melhorada, mas não ajuda o filme a ser bom.

To be honest, i don't know because i like or don't like same time. this movie kinda sad. it make me cry when i see the ending. it very hurts to see teenagers do drugs, sneaking out, treat parents different, and self-harm. Which one they not be themselves. they learn from other teenagers and bad inflection and ruined their own teenagers and very traumatized. Learn about what real and fake friend is. I will say mixed emotion this movie.

Although the movie portrayed a some what realistic story of the life of a young girl going through a rough time it felt like it was written by an actual 13 year old which you'd think is a good thing but it was really sloppy, incoherent and very boring. And I never really understood the point in movies that make drug addiction seem cool.

Has someone who is about to turn 13 in 2 days it's currently Jan 3 my bday is Jan 5th. This movie is a masterpiece of how some friends can turn into lessons. Or people might not be what they seem.

Eh, wouldn’t recommend, maybe for a bit of fun but it’s not the greatest film. Didn’t like it as much as others, especially those Tiktok fanatics. However it was a nice portrayal of this kind of thing and nice acting.

i love this movie so much. i relate to it a lot unfortunately. i do not recommend it for people under 13 years old. (also depending on the maturity level)

This movie deserves the 81% percent score it received. For Nikki Reed to write a script at the age of Thirteen when she was experiencing everything she was and was sad, angry, and hurt and to have someone help her write something so beautiful, shocking, and saddening. This movie was said to be semi-autobiographical so 50% of the things in this script was fact the other 50% fiction. I loved the choice of everyone who got to be apart of this movie. I won’t deny it I honestly would’ve loved to see Nikki play the character of Tracy since she stated the character was loosely based on herself emphasizing loosely. I personally think there needs to be more movies out there like this one.

Tells the story of troublesome teenagers who go off the rails. Not much of a storyline but easy watching.

This was a tough watch at times. Very emotionally intense, aided by chaotic camerawork. Extremely dark themes. I think the fact these girls are supposed to be in 7th grade was a little ridiculous; I laughed out loud when I was reminded of this late in the movie. The story remains the same if they are cast as high schoolers (which matches their age). More about their age: uncomfortable scenes throughout as these teenage girls put their sexuality on display. While it's (brutally) realistic, I found myself wondering at times if this is something that should really be on display at all, a la Cuties. Otherwise, I think it does a great job of showing the intense complexity of emotionally troubled teenage girls, complete with image issues, manipulation, histrionic sexual behavior, etc.

Director Hardwicke presents a more dark coming-of-age narrative that has the kind of caustic tone found in a proper thriller. Evan Rachel Wood fits the central role like a glove and the cinematographer evokes a very fly-on-the-wall sort of perspective in the photography.

Amazing. Story told extremely well, and has so much emotional depth and realism. It's very accurate in the lives of some teenagers. It's nostalgic and evokes so many emotions. Amazing actresses and just an overall AMAZING movie. 10/10!!! 🍿 ❤️
