Three Men and a Baby Reviews

A certified blockbuster. [Full review in Spanish]

| Jul 5, 2022

The film works well despite its predictability, perhaps because of it. We can sit back and enjoy all the timeworn, sexist antics of three seasoned comic actors fumbling with formula and diapers, and a script that keeps its laughs on the dry side.

| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 20, 2022

While it lacks the sinister mindlessness of the Three Stooges' variation on the same theme, the film tends to work, thanks to the strong teamwork, competently jazzy direction by Leonard Nimoy, and a real cutie pie of a baby girl.

Something got lost in the translation. In French, the story was charming. In English, it’s cutesy-poo. The movie makes this point: Babies are wonderful and they change your life. But didn’t you know that?

| Original Score: 2/5 | Apr 20, 2022

The charm, allure and hard work of the cast more than compensates for the structural gaps. Tom Selleck, Ted Danson and Steve Guttenberg (and twins Lisa and Michelle Blair, who take turns playing the baby) interact exquisitely.

| Original Score: 8/10 | Apr 20, 2022

The French got away with the obvious plotting because they knew at what point to leave a joke alone. Unfortunately, the Americans push everything too far -- and all they get for their pains is a very expensive sitcom.

| Original Score: 1.5/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Nimoy has imported everything intact from the French -- except the underlying message. What we are left with is an extended television sitcom.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Three Men and a Baby is fluff, but it's agreeable enough if you're a in kitchy-coo state of mind.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Just as in Coline Serreau's original comedy, there's no attempt to define the characters. But director Leonard Nimoy does put a little more heart into this push-button movie. And his stars slowly warm up to their roles as bachelor fathers.

| Original Score: 2.5/4 | Apr 20, 2022

The French version did have more texture, but the new film is brighter and livelier than its predecessor. And if the ending seemed more plausible in a French context, a subplot about drug smugglers is executed more nimbly in the new movie.

| Original Score: 4/5 | Apr 20, 2022

[Three Men and a Baby] isn't the sort of movie critics are supposed to like. It's simply too facile, too obvious and too aware of every cliché about men as mothers, diaper-changers, baby-feeders, etc. to applaud.

| Apr 20, 2022

The film is pretty dumb, complete with a goofy subplot about a heroin smuggling ring. But there are some genuinely tender touches that elevate "Baby" from sitcom to endearing comedy.

| Apr 20, 2022

It touches on the topical issues of fatherhood, responsibility and respect for women. These issues are soft-pedaled in favor of baby gags, but they are enough of a presence to give this slight, pleasant comedy some weight.

| Original Score: B- | Apr 20, 2022

It's all as earthy as a network sitcom could get, which I don't mean as a compliment; what comes in dirty goes out clean. This is moviemaking as a diaper service.

| Original Score: 1/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Selleck’s blatant amateurism comes to represent the heavy hand that has replaced the nuances of the original movie, subtle details that have been drained out by Leonard Nimoy, who is rather generously listed here as “director."

| Original Score: 1/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Director Leonard Nimoy and writers James Orr and Jim Cruickahank have stayed so faithful to [the original French version], except for the addition of one or two Hollywood contrivances, that you know exactly what's going to happen and when.

| Apr 20, 2022

About all the movie has going for it is the fun of peering through the endless rooms of the trio's ultra-deluxe playboy apartment, and also the general amiability of the three stars. (If only amiability were funny).

| Apr 20, 2022

What do two pretty-boy 온라인카지노추천 stars and a Police Academy graduate know about being fathers? Absolutely nothing. But they learn, delightfully, in this frothy Leonard Nimoy-directed comedy which actually improves on the recent French film which inspired it.

| Apr 20, 2022

Among these baby movies, "Three Men" isn't as inventive as Raising Arizona, but it is one of the dandiest reasons anyone needs to go to the movies. Besides, doesn't everyone want to see Selleck succeed for a change?

| Original Score: 3/4 | Apr 20, 2022

Most of this movie teeters on the edge of dumbness. But because of the fetching baby and Selleck, who is pretty fetching himself and not a bad comic actor, audiences will probably forgive it a lot.
