Timecop Reviews
One of the least time travel-y time travel movies I've seen. The whole premise is there so JCVD can have a do over and save his wife. The time travel exposition was horrendous, and there was zero exploration of the secondary consequences of what these guys were doing to the timeline. Rae Dawn Chong look alike character (I thought it WAS her) was wasted in weird about face character decisions, and while it is JCVD's strength, the film wastes way too much time on hand to hand fights in the dark. That all said, it is slickly produced vs most of Van Damme's flicks, the villain is decent (but very very dumb), the choreography is good, and while Van Damme won't win any Oscars, he is likeable in the role. It is a decent popcorn action flick.
Anyone rating this less than 4 stars missed the whole fun of this movie. Classic Van Damage. Great one liners, fun action. Who cares about the story and plot holes. This is a 90's classic. "I'm still kicking, I must be on Broadway."
The politics floating in the background are sort of interesting and I actually like the weird futurist designs of 2004 but ultimately there's too much boring exposition and not enough action (do both at once guys!)
Vale apena assistir? Com certeza. Nota: 8,75
Mess of a movie with idiotic writing. Entertaining idea with a terrible execution. Think of the plot for more than 10 seconds and it falls apart. Only redeeming factor are the use of some good sets
Great move, great experience, I thought the plot was great, the run time was great. The movie was great. 5 stars, a true dream match.
It's back to 1994 for the film considered to be Jean-Claude Van Damme's most commercially successful film: 'Timecop'. SYNOPSIS: 'Max Walker, an officer for a security agency that regulates time travel, must fend for his life against a shady politician who's intent on changing the past to control the future.' There's not a lot of brains behind this film, but are there ever in Van Damme's films? However it's a great little sci-fi romp that really does deliver with its action scenes which give the lead a chance to show off. The science is wonky if not impossible and leaves so many questions as each time jump creates more confusion or counters what we've seen before. But who cares? And let's not mention the inconsistencies of the film. Van Damme's hair goes from dry to wet, to dry, to wet again in the space of one scene. But that's on the director. More fun than you'd expect. Punch, kick, time jump! 7/10
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, and Jean-Claude Van, arguably three names that most represent 80s/90s action films. I mean who doesn't love quippy one-liners, bland predictable plotlines and buckets of blood. Yet, despite their cheesiness, these movies single-handedly created the term, "blockbuster," and due to that designation, some of the most jaw-dropping stunt work and innovative CGI were introduced in these movies. One such movie with memorizing CGI and stunt work was Timecop. As I've said a few times before, I love stories about time travel. While, this movie's time travel logic is ultimately flawed, the movie is still enjoyable and made all the more believable with fairly good performances throughout. Though, the star of the film was the effect used to represent the warping space and time. Rather than something bombastic, the artists opted for a subtle effect that felt natural and plausible.
This was okay. Had some good fighting scenes, but it fell a big short on keeping me at the edge of my seat.
This is JCVD in his finest role!! His ability to portray a husband who desperately misses his wife after she is killed, and has the ability to alter the past, touches the heart unlike anything he has ever done. While JCVD is know for his balerina kicks and over the top fight scenes, this movie marks the beginning of what he can do as an accomplished actor. Worth the view if you have time to spare. So says the Gooch.
A Timecop squad is created after an inventor creates the ability to time travel and a Senator has his eyes set on getting money from the past and changing time to get to the presidency.
I could watch infinite time travel movies, also it was interesting to watch a comic book movie from the 90s. Sadly rules are not that clear and movie tends to fall apart if you start to think about it
JCVDs best film. Clever, funny, and action packed.
I always enjoy watching this movie. One of Van Damme's best if you ask me.
My brain hurts from trying to solve how this all works out. Some rules of time travel are followed some aren't. How did the house survive in the end when it blew up twice. It hits just about every clique in the book. It a movie that you would watch if it just so happen to be on tv late at night.
